Silkroad travels: Pamir
Kara kul kishlak in early morning. As usual in the Pamir, you get to bed with sunset and rise with sunrise. The permanently inhabited village at 3930 m asl. has been a military and border patrol post: the Chinese border is situated a mere 15 km from here. But with the Soviet imperial paranoia gone, the town has shifted its activity to friendly trade, tourism and jailoos (summer pasture). We are housed in a homestay, we share three connected rooms with 13 Italian car tourists and 5 other cyclists.
At the horizon the 5'000ers of the Tajik National Park are in sight. On the opposite lakeshore you can see the opening to the Western basin.

Hallo Dieter!

Thank you for this interesting note, and good photo. Great travel you were lucky to make! I also hope to go to Tadjikistan one day...
About the picture. I understand it was quite early and there is probably not a lot of people in the village, but i have the feeling something's missing in the bottom third of the picture, which is quite empty. very good however.
