Photographer's Note

Though noisy and certainly destructive to the aquatic environment, Thai "long tail" (longtail) boats are often pieces of real beauty. These large, wooden, motor-driven boats are the work horses of the southern coasts and islands, ferrying both goods and people.

I captured this distinctively Thai scene on a small island off the coast of Thailand. Unable to do the scene justice from shore. Against my better judgment, I took to the water, and quickly was up to my armpits. However, this risk netted the vantage point shown in the photo. The lines of the boat, especially the sharp up-turn at the front really captured my attention. The clouds and brilliant white sand more than just add to the scene, in my opinion, they make it what it is.

This photo has not been cropped or otherwise edited. I believe that I used a polarizing filter, though I'm not positive.
