Padaung Women

Various origins of the custom are cited, ranging from protection against tiger attacks to symbols of wealth and status. One myth tells of a beautiful dragon with a long neck that was impregnated by the wind to produce the first Padaung people...

Traditionally, only Padaung girls born on a Wednesday of a full moon were destined to have their necks fitted with the coils.

Hi Andre,
I really like the happy smile on the woman's face and the clarity is excellent. Bacground is nicely blurred so we concentrate on the face.

Hi Andre,
You know...that lens...hmmmmmmmmm......i melt when i see that one. At my local photo store i saw one and played with it. And although i am very happy with my 1.8, the 1.2 is the ultimate version, it can't be beaten. I though about a moment in buying one and selling my 300m/m (which i hardly use anymore) but reject that thought...maybe one day.
Of course here on TE in all those small version the real quality does not show in comparising with the 1.8, but i am sure on large prints the brilliance and clarity are un-disputable. Although the woman is very beautiful, i prefer the beauty of the 1.2 ;-)
I see how sharpness is improved (a lot) and your framing is really excellent. The background who is in perfect bokeh and very natural. That blue of her shirt and cap is really making the contrast in this photo...i love it.
Seeing this one i decide to post also one, next week...promise.
Which village was it exactly? When i was in Mae Hong Son we took a boat heading to the Burmese border about 30 minutes, but it seems there are several villages were these people live. I don't have a name of mine, but i see you have.

Alors celle la tu lui as demande si elle est canoniste ? Il a raison l'ami Henk, c'est du beau caillou que tu manipules la, hors de portee du trekker moyen qui doit se contenter de ses lentille sbas de gamme comme le 24-70 et de son boitier de pacotille pour cause de marketing defaillant chez canon qui tarde a remplacer 5D et 30D...
Sinon pour le reste je voudrais pas trop me repeter, je l'ai deja ecrit sur nombre de tes precedents portraits, tu maitrises parfaitement cette technique, et en plus tu avais la un bien joli sujet, bien habille avec de beaux bleux ce qui ne gate rien. Elle s'est pretee spontanement a l'exercice ou tu as du lui graisser la patte ?

Hello Andre,
Nikon has F/1.4 and and F/1.8 85mm versions but they focus too slowly for my purposes. An excellent portrait of the Padaung woman with her incredible attire. I like the way that she is looking away from the camera. Great work!

Bonjour, André. Un portrait qui bénéficie d'une excellente mise au point et d'un bokeh qui met bien en valeur le sujet principal. Les bleus des vêtements sont très jolis tout comme le sourire de la dame. Qaunt à moi, si j'avais été une fille là-bas, je me serais arrangée pour ne pas naître un mercredi ;o).

j'ai fait des photos de ces femmes, mais je dois dire que je ne me sentais pas a l'aise, cela ressemblait plutot a un parc animalier mais humain, ta photo est belle par ces couleurs et netteté, j'aimerai connaitre ton sentiment sur cette impression de prendre des photos dans un tel endroit?

Salut André,
J'ai une faiblesse au niveau des mes vertèbres cervicales ce qui me vaut parfois des grosses crises de maux de tête (comme hier par ex.) et en voyant cette femme je me dis que ça serait peut être une solution pour moi. En tout cas ces anneaux dorés sont beaucoup plus esthétiques que la minerve en mousse que je suis obligée de porter pour me soulager.
Blague à part, c'est encore un beau portrait que tu as réalisé grâce à ce super caillou. Je suis toujours flattée quand je lis que c'est un peu à cause de moi que tu l'as acheté! Quand je vois des images comme celle-ci et que je lis les circonstances dans lequelles tu les as faites (message à JY) je t'envies parfois de voyager comme tu le fait: en ayant le luxe de prendre ton temps et pas comme nous qui essayons au contraire de caser un maximum de choses en un minimum de jours.
Bon, je te laisse... je dois aller préparer mes affaires avant de hit the road pour aller retrouver Pixel à Bâle cet après-midi.

Décidément, je suis fan absolu de tes portraits. Tu es vraiment un maître dans cet art photographique!Une autre magnifique photo....et tu devrais sérieusement penser à exposer (si ce n'est pas encore fait....) ou, pourquoi pas, envisager la réalisation d'un livre?

Good photo. Great colors and good expression on the woman. For me the composition looks a little "awkward". I know you, actually meaning the photographer, wants not only a portrait shot but also wants to include the woman's coils. It is just that right below the shoulders is an awkward place to cut the composition. Maybe if one of her arms were raised, or something like that, I would be more keen to it. Looking at the picture though I want to see what is hanging on the end of the beads or strings hanging down out of the photo.

OK, enough about the composition. Still great work. You work with what you have and it looks like you did good with it. Great work.

Great pic of this beautiful lady! We really enjoyed visiting their villages as well, but found the shade where most of them lingered a challenge. This one is in full sun and very wonderful! The blue cap is amazing.take care,
