Photographer’s Note
As Roland (ahmet54) pointed our in his critique I mistekenly named this minaret after the one situated in Bukhara. Correcting my mistake, I renamed the photo and here are few things about this, Islam Khodja minaret:
The minaret was built by Islam Khodja, who was prime minister of Khiva khanate. In 1908-1910 Islam Khodja built the smallest madrassah in Khiva and the highest minaret (45 metres), imitating the ancient minarets of the 11th and 12th centuries. On the minaret, bands of ochre bricks masonry are alternated by a band of a glazed mosaic of dark blue, blue, white and green. The diameter of the minaret on the foundation is 10 m but the shaft of the minaret diminishes in its diameter as it rises, and produces an unusual impression.
