In Samarkand at the outer walls of Ulughbeg madrasah(built 1417-20). You can recognize the madrasah named after the great astronomer and statesman because it is decorated with stars.

Hi Roland. Great to see the restorations going on after the soviet cold shoulder to such things. i have a tape of a programme I saw on TV many years ago of an old fellow teaching his two suns the secrets of making the tiles and doing the assembly of these intricate facades- all without interest and funding from the Russians. The old man's dream was to restore the caravansaries and the madrases. Wonderful to see that his hopes have become reality now. I hope he is still alive to see it. Regards. Klaudio.

Gut, zu sehen, dass diese wirklich großartigen Baudenkmäler unterhalten werden - obwohl auch dieses Land bestimmt dringendere Probleme hat. Ein interessantes Foto in einer tollen Qualität.

I like this composition because it gives one a feel for the enormity of the work this young man is facing. It also makes one feel that this restoration will go on for a long time. Well done.
