Western Capitol Floating Market

Cần Thơ Town has the nick name “Western Capitol” thanks to its beauty and construction pops up among the flat Mekong River Delta. Due to its quantity of rivers and canals, when talking about Cần Thơ, we mean rivers and boats. When their children get married, parents offer them the boat to start their independent life with.
One of the local best attractions is Cái Răng Floating Market — similar to Damnoen Saduak Market in Bangkok, Thailand.
After crossing Cái Răng Bridge, turn to Võ Tánh street, keep along the bank for less than half a mile and you arrive the market where large boats little boats fully packed with produce from farms gathers over the Hậu River.
To identify their merchandise, we look at the sample hung on the bamboo pole in front of each boat. A pumpkin means… pumpkin. A bundle of green shallot for shallot. And an additional bag underneath to be translated to “wholesale only”.

I photographed this on the last days of lunar calendar year 2003 when everyone was in the rush. Buy Buy. Sale Sale. Hurry up to end and close for TET.

Remarks: I am currently out of town “looking” for pictures for 2006 Calendar. Sorry that I have no time to write the note. This note is contributed by a trekearth friend who is interested in this topic.
