Photographer’s Note

I took a motorbike ride outside Hue...got lost in the little villages. Many roads were flooded but over there, it's all normal! So we just drove in the flooded street and reached a very small village near Hue (15-20 huts/houses on the side of a small river.

Someone was fishing with those giant nets so we stopped to watch him...While we were watching the fisherman, this kid got on the porch of his house that wasabout 15 meters away from us, to watch us.

I approached him. He seemed very shy and kind of scared. I guess that's why he had his plastic gun in his right hand, to protect himself! In the house, all we could see in the darkness was a mattress placed directly on the soil and a portable oven that probably was running on fuel because the house did not seem to be connected by any electric wire...

He did not seem to mind that pics were taken...I showed him my first pic (from afar, did not want to scare him) and he seemed to be ok with it as he smiled...

In the end, I completely missed the fisherman, but I don't mind because of this kid.

Superbe cliché de ce jeune garçon qui a un air gêné par ta présence, belle présentation et détails, jolies couleurs et netteté, belle note qui accompagne ta photo.

Bonjour Marc, je suis étonnée du peu de monde sur cette photo! bizarre tout de même, si nous ne mettons pas des fleurs ou des fenêtres...
tu as saisi une belle expression, un peu timide,j'aime beaucoup le mur vieilli sur lequel il s'appuie;

Hi Marc,
You know I remember the power rangers, so it's quite strange to see him with this shirt ;o). I like the way he is being shy behind the wall and yet even though he is shy he still has the courage to look directly at you. He stands out well from the dark interior. Has he got a wound on his head?

J'aime bien cette prise dans ce vieux hangar tout decati tres typique des villages vietnamiens tout pourris d'humidite dans cette region. Le gamin un peu timide avec ces son T-shirt un peu gris :) malgre le liseret rouge qui pete bien. ca me replong dans ces ambiances vietnamiennes tres particulieres.

j'aime beaucoup cette photo,où le petit graçon s'appuie sur un beau et vieux mur,tout en te regardant timidement!J'aime aussi comme il ressort sur le fond noir!Vraiment superbe!

what a lovely child he is.. as you wrote in your notes he looks very shy but you got his heart.. loved the surface of the coloumn on the right and the fingers of the child..

Bizarre tout ce qu'il y a dans cette photo. Cette camisole des Power Rangers et ce fusil en plastique me paraissent plus violent sur un enfant au Vietnam que si j'aurais vu la même scène transposée en Amérique-du-nord. C'est peut-être aussi la cicatrice sur son front qui m'alerte un peu. Après quelques secondes de réflexion on se rend bien compte que ce n'est qu'un simple enfant qui s'amuse mais dans un autre contexte.

Nice photo - good use of natural light on the face - and the eyes really jump out. THe blackness behind brings attention to him too.

Hi Marc, wow look at this little fella's eyes. You've captured them beautifully. The image is so sharp it's like I'm standing next to you taking the shot. I love the use of the vertical and I like how you've positioned him within the frame. Great job & TFS, Lisa.
