Photographer's Note

HUE was the capital of Đàng Trong Kingdom from 1738 to 1775 and of the Nguyen Dynasty from 1802 to 1945. The major attractions here are the vast, 19th-century citadel (the "Imperial City") in the city itself and the imperial tombs spread out in the countryside near the city.

Visiting the tombs is a great day out from Hue. You can go by (motor)bike or by car and take in a few other sites along the way too if you want. All this can these days be easily arranged anywhere in Hue.

THIS PICTURE comes face to face with one of the stone guardians that protect the tomb of Khải Định (1885 – 1925), who was the 12th Emperor of the Nguyễn Dynasty in Vietnam, reigning from 1916 to 1925.
