Photographer's Note

Located some 15 kilometres south of Phan Rang-Thp Chăm on a rocky promontary five kilometres west of Highway 1, this single tower is all that remains of three that were constructed here in the 16th century, and thus represents the final phase of Chăm architecture. It gets its name from the last independent king of Chmpa, P R M (1627-1651), who died a prisoner of the Việt.
According to H. Parmentier, a French historian cum archaeologist, Porome was the last of the six kings on the throne of Panduranga: the first one was Po Klonhle (1579-1603). Under his reign, Porome maintained good relations with his neighboring countries such as Maladu (Malaysia), Java (Indonesia), Kur (Cambodia), Vietnam and India. His first-rank wife was Bia Thanh Chanh, Cham woman and daughter of king Muhtaha. She is now worshipped in the real sanctuary, south west of the main tower. Bia Thanh Chanh being sterile, king Porome got a second wife, Bia Thanh Chih of Ede origin With this second bed, the king got several daughters, and no son at all. With a view to fastening the Cham-Viet relations, Porome married a Vietnamese, Bia Ut, who was none other than princess Ngoc Khoa. Later on, princes Ngoc Khoa came back to her native country when king Porome died.
