Photographer's Note

The English author and philosopher, Sir Francis Bacon (1561-1626) said: "Reading maketh a full man, conference a ready man, and writing an exact man."

While strolling with my wife Helen around the Hoàn Kiếm Lake not far from our hotel in Ha Noi’s Old Quarter, spotted this distinguished-looking gentleman who’s fully engrossed reading a thick book. He’s probably a well-read person.

Hoàn Kiếm Lake (also known as the Lake of the Restored Sword) is one of the numerous picturesque lakes in Hanoi. The lake used to be part of the mighty 1,175km Red River (Sông Hồng in Vietnamese) which originates in China’s Yunnan Province. It enriches the fertile Red River Delta (120km long and 75km wide) in the south before discharging its load into the Gulf of Tonkin.
