Photographer’s Note

Just above the boatman conic hat, you can see the impressive old Japanese covered bridge of Hội An.

This former harbour town at the estuary of the Thu Bon river was an important Vietnamese trading centre in the 16th and 17th centuries, where Chinese from various provinces as well as Japanese, Dutch and Indians settled.

Hi Andre,

I truly enjoy your images because they are sharp and the colours always bright. I'm not sure if its the PP you do on them or you just wait for the right time of day to take pictures. Your composition here is very good because you show us not just the architecture of this place but also a way of life with the boat on the foreground. Thanks Andre.

Bonjour André,

La photo est impressionante par le timing de la prise de vue. Le batelier est au bon endroit, dans la bonne position et met vraiment en valeur la scene d arriere plan qui aurait sans doute etait fade sans.
Je viens de lire la discussion avec Roberto. Effectivement, la photo aurait dechirée grave (pour parler jeune) avec un ciel coloré de lever de soleil, mais comme tu l as ecrit, la chasse photo a l affut ne nous donne pas toujours ce que l on veut.
Quoiqu il en soit, un resultat payant (et plaisant).
J espere que pendant tes 2 heures d attente tu as pu profiter d une bonne soupe la aussi ;-)

Hello André,

Une image qui donne l'impression que le temps s'est arrêté dans ce coin du Vietnam. Rien ne laisse à penser que la photographie a été prise à notre époque.
J'aime bien cette impression.

J'allais saluer la réactivité pour avoir cette embarcation pile au bon endroit, avec l'homme bien encadré par l'arche du pont, et tous les éléments savamment agencés, mais je viens de lire la discussion avec Roberto, je vais salue donc la patience !
Merci de penser ainsi tes photos, de ne rien laisser au hasard pour partager des images d'une qualité toujours remarquable.

it's a very pleasant image with a particular exotic atmosphere and fantastic subjects, overall the magnificent bridge.

Hello Andre,
I remember that nice old bridge, and you have got it from a good angle to include the other small lower bridge and those yellow buildings. The person in the boat is a special element to the shot and your patience paid off, without it the picture would be void of life. I like that you have the rippled reflection of the person just in the frame. A lovely scene from this historical little town.

This gives the impression that the image quality just manages to maintain adequate definition, though it might be a countermeasure against unauthorized use of the images...
The boatman is put in the perfect place.

Beautiful pic here - perfect timing with the boat person, and the houses on the left are in a good spot for the eye too.

Bonjour mon ami,
comme je vois, l'envie de voyager partout dans le monde ne t'est pas passée. Je suis à ce titre heureux que tu ais aussi voyagé sur ma galerie de photos.
Une vue avec des couleurs vraiment naturelles et des lumières ultra bien dosées.
Un paysage très propre et calme, très traditionnel, je ne suis pas pour le modernisme à outrance.

That wonderful Japanese bridge is just an element in the shot here, in which - again - everything just falls into place, up to the timing of the rowing man. Iconic, yet this image has a freshness to it. Great work. I hope you enjoyed Vietnam.
