Of Wind and Silk Photo

Photographer’s Note

For once, I was having the appropriate lens mounted on the camera when I saw this lady coming accross the street, in order to catch her in the beautiful setting next to Phuoc An river.

Her typical dress, called ao dai, is a silk tunic worn over pants, tightly fit around the upper torso to emphasize bust and curves.

Although the dress covers the entire body, it is thought to be provocative, especially when it is made of thin fabric. It covers everything, but hides nothing, as a vietnamese saying goes.

The dress must be individually fitted and usually requires several weeks for a tailor to complete.

Very good portrait of this lady with her typical clothes and hat! The colors of the clothes standing out in the picture are great, and you've made an excellent use of depth of field, with the blurred background. Excellent job!

Cette robe traditionnelle est de toute beauté, et la remarquable qualité de ton image permet d'en apprécier l'étoffe. Je sens presque la soie sous mes doigts ;o)
La coupe très ajustée avantage la jolie silhouette de cette jeune femme, effectivement !

Très joli décor naturel également. L'arrière-plan est un dépaysement total.

Un plaisir des yeux cette photo. On pourrait presque croire a un defilé de mode organisé tellement la lumiere est appropriée et le decor exotique (apres tout, normal puisque l on est au Vietnam).
J aime beaucoup le rendu de l arriere plan. Comme quoi, il n est pas toujours necessaire d ouvrir a f/2.8, ca a permis d avoir la netteté sur toute la dame (et ca valait le coup ;-)

Je dois dire que cette prise de vue est très jolie au même titre que cette charmante personne. La tenue s'accorde parfaitement à la lumière qui l'illumine.
Le cadrage est parfait et le mouvement de la tunique apporte un super dynamisme.
Excellent réflexes !!

The ao dai is a beautiful garment and the girls can look stunning in the silk ones made for special occasions. We were once close to a wedding on one of the islands in the Mekong Delta and the women all looked stunning. The guests were just as interested in us and gathered round to take our photos and touch our arms! You have captured this lady very well, looking graceful. The orange colour is very striking.

what impress me in here is the excellent exposure management. I see details of the surrounding environment such as the river, the grass and even the blue sky, thanks to that feature. The golden light makes the beautiful lady to pop up in the frame and the palm tree trunk is a nice contrasting element. You should thank her for using such nice color too :) Wonderful job!

Acheter un nouveau apareil photo, mon Dieu, ce sera très difficile de décider!
Ici, tu as fait un portrait magnifique! C'est le talent du photographe tout simplement? Je ne suis pas bon dans ces téchniques et j'adore les portraits bien présentés dans TE, par exemple!
Le contraste entre l'avant-plan qui a une netteté excellente et l'arrière-plan qui est flou me plaît beaucoup! Les couleurs et la luminosité sont excellentes et belles! Le moment de la prise est parfait!

On peut dire que tu l'as choppee au vol celle-ci ;P Tres belle plante! hahahaha

La posture est extra. Elle met la demoiselle et ses atours bien en valeur. Les couleurs oranges sont tres douces et ajoutent de la feminite a l'image...comme s'il en manquait me diras-tu!...Enfin excellente profondeur de champs qui detache bien le modele de son "decor".

There is nothing new by saying that its an excellent composition..what i personally like about this composition is sharpness , contrast and most importantly the posture about the front leg....nice dress contrast...also the beautiful lady covering her face from the sun and her hat is not enogh and so she is using her hand..great work..

This is a really nice photo of the VN girl. I love the colors of her dress. The light on her is also amazing. For some reason if she looks at something with an expression, I think that would add a lot more to it. Anyway, this is a very well balanced light, colors and position. Well seen.

Looks like my being gone for a week keep me behind, especially your gallery is full of beautiful shot from all over the world. Here we are from South Africa to Vietnam. I'm feeling major jetlag here.
This is classic really, the typical essence and beauty of Vietnamese people. Love the colors here, warm golden tone and orange red. Such strong and eye catchy colors, yet the way her dress flowing in the wind is so elegant. There something very sensual and exotic about the image.

J'ai hésité longtemps à commenter cette image, que je trouvais un peu trop calibrée façon magazine, mais je reste coite devant la sublime luminosité et le chatoyant de cet ao dai, qui se marie merveilleusement bien au fond vert. Un travail de pro, une indéniable superbe; tu as habilement valorisé ton modèle qui a en soi déjà belle allure. Félicitations.
