[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
The fog and drizzling rain were accompanying us, as our 4x4 slowly tried to find its way through the curly mountain roads. The driver’s plans turned out to be sabotaged as the road he wanted to take appeared to be inaccessible – so a kind group of villagers announced us as they waved to stop us. The driver was obliged to take a different “accessible” route and, frankly, I would have prayed devotionally, no doubt, if we would have cruised along the first one.
The winterish weather had turned the “new” road into a pool of mud, holes and stones that were desperately trying to torture the tires of the car and our stomachs.

The road to heaven was never said to be easy. Although fog was obstructing the sight, I could so easily imagine the beautiful landscape. Harder to imagine was how people survive in these rough conditions. The way up to the village of Lung Khau Nhin seemed so out of reach for the world, but then again, wasn’t that one of the reasons why we wanted to go there?

As we drove to the top of the hill, we noticed the fog had wrapped itself around the village like a protective city wall, leaving a beautiful clear view on the village itself. Even from the distance you could see the colourful buzzing business of a market.
This surely wasn’t Bac Ha market – that is only open on Sundays – but it was at least as colourful and quit unspoiled with us being the only foreigners.

The colourful Flower H’Mong being the main tribe of the surrounding villages, they were omnipresent here to trade their goods. Their traditional clothes are a true delight for the eyes; a colourful inspiration for any creative mind with those wonderful hand sewn embroideries. The colour certainly enhances the beauty of these people, but their eyes show that genuine kindness you so rarely see in “our world” these days. On a cold day as the one we were there; it fills one’s soul with warmth of the purest kind.

This exceptional old lady made a deep impression on me with her strong posture. After, no doubt, a hard life, she was proudly showing me the colours of age.

When I find the time, I will continue posting a short series on Vietnam taken during a short work trip in that area.
I’m currently still travelling for work, but hopefully will have time soon to, not only follow your photos, but also to comment on them.
Thank you for your patience and for passing by.

great work, sabine!
lovely (maybe a bit shy?) smile on the woman's face and you're right, the delightfully colored costume matches her obviously good and friendly personality!
nice colors, details and use of light - very well seen and composed 'shot'!
tfs and take care on your work trips,
dora

As I open my computer to TE what greets me on the front page on Asia.........working in Vietnam, I had no idea.
The story is so readable and your post of the colourful Flower H'mong woman does it great justice. She looks very happy, as she giggles child-like behind her hand. Perfect focus and DOF, maintainingh the rich bokeh.
Take care, Sabine and look forward to more from you soon.

Hello Sabine,

Hallo Sabine!
I'm impresed with the amount of colours in your photo. Small depth of field, great contrast, sharpnes...you've done well here!
TFS, best regards,
viktor

Amicalement,
Jean-Claude

Nice shot. Lots of color and even more color. I would have prefered that the top of her head dress not be cropped, though.

Dag Sabine,

groetjes,

Luc.

Hello Sabine!
love your present of a smile from Vietnam. The lady in her beautiful colourful dress, the natural light and DoF that provide a good background bokeh together with your mythical notes bring me back on the Vietnam mountains one time more.
An always big welcoming smile!
Luca

Great portrait Sabine. Very natural, very expressive, very direct from the subject's soul. Colors are amazing as usual. This one didn't need your name underneath it to be immediately recognized as one of yours. Vietnam you say? Those colors and embroideries are so eastern European that you really got me in the first place here. Really nice!

a bientot

This is really marvelous study of an old woman. Superb colours, amazing DOF. Thanks for sharing.
Regards.

Salut Sabine.
