[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
In a small village about 20km from Sapa... Black H'mong ladies rest after a wood gathering walk. I desaturated the greens; this lush valley was blindingly verdant.

Velvia slide scanned with a Canon FS4000US slide scanner and adjusted in CS2.

Hello der Caleb,
Great job done again. A very strange world for me, but those two ladies would be able to walk at anyone of the shopping syreets of the western world, and nobody would take care for them ! They are from far east but seem that much westerny !
Very good compo.
TFS and have a nice weekend

Hi Caleb. Quite interesting shot of these village women dressed up in black attires. The sharpness of the basket along with the logs of wood is commendable. Regards.

Hi Caleb!
Nice portrait of these women in traditional cloth having a break. It`s strange they do their traditional job in their traditional cloth and the only things they have from a mocern world are plastic bags and shoes.....
The contrast with this wonderful green background is a amazing.
Regards,Leo

Lovely pondering life shot - the subjects are nicely positioned and the colors are so vibrant! (i guess we can thank the slide film for this partly). I think its a very effective shot.
Regards.

Hi Caleb,
This one is also a very very successfull photo, and i am really glad for having discovered your gallery full of such daily life and anthrpological photographs from Asia. Colors, sharpness of the figures and their bokeh is first rate. This one has a very similar feeling to your "Three Graces" photo, which i had previously commented on.
Congratulations,
Deniz

Hi Caleb,

great job, the woman's face is really expressive. The background is great. Well done.

Regards

Sergio

Hello Caleb,
Another fine environmental portraiture. I like the way that you don't have both of these H'mong ladies staring at the camera. Beautifully composed.
Stan

amazing double portrait caleb... a very well composed one... the outfits, the basket, the way they look in different directions are all great... a real good job, congrats...

I wonder what she was thinking, a very rye look on her face. Use of the DOF is excellant here

Simon

Hi Caleb,

Great composition and wonderful colors. Excellent control of DOF.
I have been to Vietnam this winter but did not go to Sapa because of the weather. Well, there is next time.

Wow, you DEsaturated the greens, Caleb. The original Velvia trannie must have been a sight for sore eyes! I like this shot because it doesn't look 'touristy' like so many others that we see from the Sapa region. Excellent sharpness and perfect DOF. Good work. Cheers . . . David

Beautiful. It's always a pleasure to discover portrait in conjonction with the landscape

Cale, the next time you feel like shooting ethnics again, do try Sabah. Might not be as verdantly green as this but you never know. Westerners have a strange way of getting out the best from natives.
