After my 200th post, I feel that I have to let go of my inhibitions and post some experimental shots that i had in the past that I had reservations about posting. I will have around one week for this. Here's the first one...

I took this picture in a park in the heart of Hanoi (please help me identify the name of this park). I saw this guy all alone from a distance. I told myself that if he would still be there by the time I get close, I had to take a shot. As if through mental telepathy, the guy received my message. He didn't move an inch. I inched closer...and closer...and closer.... Other people noticed me but not him. He was in his own world. And I was on mine.

Sorry, Manuel, I have no time to write a proper note so it's just to say that I love this shot!

Very good composition and very good moment, he was in smomewhere else we can see it in the picture, great catch.

Manuel, j'aime beaucoup cet instant de solitude. Le contraste de sa silhouette sombre avec la lumière du lac se marient bien. La composition est très réussie.

Let me be alone a moment,Let me be a moment in solitude,Let me think more ,breath more, see free,as I want,Let me be free,Dear...

Thanks for sharing this poetical & great shot,Manuel!

bravo Manny... I like it when you take risks to try new things ...and you did well as usual... inhibitions are only there to prevent you from doing things... once you dare, you are surprised how easy and satisfying it can be... you receive my warmest encouragements Manny;-)) please go on in this new track... this photo is very sensible (as always with your shots) and has a special mood...nice shot!

Solitude, isolement, réflexion, méditation ? Peu importe, l'image doit laisser parler celui qui regarde. La composition est très réussie. Le noir et blanc renforce c'est aspect de solitude.
Très bien Manny.
Loneliness, isolated, reflection, meditation? It does not matter, the image must let speak that which looks at. The composition very is successful. The black and white reinforce it is aspect of loneliness.
Very well Manny.

As I already said, I appreciate seeing someone going out of his own beaten track, it's always interesting to see a new pov or unveil a new sensitivity on something you are accustomed to. This is certainly a subject I would shoot (understatement, to say the truth, I would even be automatic on that one), but not -only- for the BW.

The good sides are about distance that let the image "breathe" and the 3 horizontal "layers" that nicely populate the shot : dark/bright/dark.

Now for the downsides :
- what bothers me most is the branch he stuck himself in the forehead in place of his nose...
-I'm not sure about the lower right darker triangle.
- you hesitated between silhouetting and not silhouetting, things have to be clear, dark grey is not, either darken or contrast a bit the character.

anyway, good try, would like to see more.

When I see this picture, I think it's a very good decision to post experimental shots in addition to your portraits. This moment is very well captured, very moody shot. It's excellent composed and the B&W works fine with ambience here. I like it!

Very good Manuel, and different from your other posts. I really love this compo and the BnW works perfect here. Thanks for choosing to share this :o)

As Luko says, good to see something new, and also as Luko says, the branch is a slight irritation, but I like this shot a lot, very good in B&W and the branch is a very minor point against the overall effect.

Wonderful B&W composition... I feel the moment...
Very well done Many, too much sensibility !

From the man with so may color, here in B/W.

Great sharp, excellent reflextion, good light and contrast, I do like the composition, great work.

Regards kaj Nielsen

It's lake Hoan Kiem (translated as "Restored Sword"). Nice framing of the subject. IMO, the photo is a bit bright in some parts, but I love the mood of the shot.

This is really not like your usual shots Manny, and that's what it makes it so interesting for me, because you prove us, after having showned us yesterday your many faces, that you have a wide sensibility. I like the way everything turns around silhuettes, but would have liked to see the treee branches occupy less space on the top of the frame.

I think we have to add poems to our pictures. I am sure you will be one of the winner in it as well. I like the way you think, the way you approach your "victims". This is not your best shot, but it is a pleasure to look through your lense. I saw the models from your students, I understand why you do not change the profession or job of yours, but your talent has to be shared and rewarded. You can tell a lot, and what is very exceptional, you like, and recognise the beauty in all people. I am really glad for that.

It feel good this photo,
Good chosen black and white, very nice composition, Yeas Manuel it feels realy good, thanks.

Could this be the Hoan Kiem lake in the centre of Hanoi?
You have framed this situation quite well. But the result is somewhere in the middle. There are too many details for silhouettes and there is not enough information to consider it as a common photo. For the latter purpose the photo is too dark and colour may have been a better option.

This is distinctly different Manny but equally effective in telling the story you intend. The white coming off the water is a little harsh to my eye. I downloaded a copy and played with the Shadows/Highlight tool to see if I could calm it down. I'll post a workshop just to test out the difference.

The composition of this image is very nice and I believe it works well in black and white. I look forward to more such experiments.

le rendu de cette solitude se fait bien ressentie
manny...super le choix du noir & blanc...la reflection est également dans l'ambiance toute particuliere...très bon job...bravo...bi

A very good try outside (but not that far) your regular style, Manny. The diagonal in the lower right corner with the guy sitting on the stone is good for the composition, and including the branches and their reflection was also a well-spotted opportunity. The only thing I'd wish for is that the person's silhouette would be clearer visible against the water where in this shot the branch seems to be emerging from his face. But it's a minor detail. I also think it looks great in b&w. Good work!

Yes - I know to feeling Manuel - since I gone digital must I have taken over 10K photo - and I quess theres some of them I "must" post some day.

I agree with your title - everybody need a moment by themself ever now and then - and you captured this moment nicely - The mirror image of the branches and the overexposed horizon - gives a dreaming moode - thanks for sharing Manuel.

B/w is quite rare in your portfolio, Manuel, but I support this decision in this case. Beautiful moody shot. THe branches and their reflection creates a wonderful compo. Well done, Manny.

Great composition in B&W, Manny! The mood, emanated from his deep in thoughts posture is increased by the naked branches, reflected on the water. Fantastic capture!

Very nice, Manuel. I'm not sure what kind of experiment this is. It jus seems like a good shot to me! I love the negative space that is so interesting, and the composition is just right.

Beautiful reflection in the water and play on contrasts between the dark branches and the nearly-white water. The scene itself is very calm and the B&W well chosen for the mood. Too bad about the little plastic (?) hanging from one of the branches (maybe clone out?).
Well done.
Frank.

Goos shot well made in the BW setting, fine balance between the motive and the title. Good start in this series

I love this image Manuel. I have the choice since I haven't been looking at TE for few days.
Everything ok so far, I had a geat shooting day today.. I had decided not to post pictures on TE, but today I have a lot of waiting time to do, i am catching a night train.
