If the smoky casinos and crowded beaches of Paradise Island are not to your taste, then maybe you should head down to the South Ocean Beach Resort on the other side of New Providence.

MSN Travel describes the resort as follows: "This 195-acre resort is located as far away from downtown Nassau's traffic jams and cruise-ship shopping crowds as it's possible to get on New Providence Island. Vacationing families and couples sunbathe, swim, and play golf in a lush, green tropical setting. A 1,000-foot beach of nearly white sand lapped by the turquoise Atlantic Ocean offers hammocks, wood sun shades, and a volleyball net. The resort's beach is much less crowded than those at bigger Nassau resorts".

Yes, MSN Travel is dead right about the beach being less crowded. You will have the whole mile-long beach to yourself - in fact you will have the whole resort to yourself because it is completely deserted (not even any security guards to keep out inquisitive visitors like myself).

South Ocean Beach Resort closed down last year but surprisingly it is still listed on many Internet booking sites like MSN Travel. I hope nobody is still booking through these sites and paying deposits in advance - they will get a shock when they arrive!

I spent an hour or so wandering through this abandoned resort taking photographs, and relaxing on the deserted beach. I didn’t see another person the whole time I was there. I enjoyed that more than jostling my way through the thousands of people that throng the Atlantis resort pictured in my last two posts.

There’s another shot taken in the middle of the resort in the Workshop here.

David solitude really is the mood in a place like this. I am glad you had the whole place to yourself. Must have been quite the contrast from staying in Atlantis! Incredible shots David!

Good, 'Santorini' style photo of yours, David.

But...?

The note, David...
The note !

This is the VERY FIRST time I have my reservations to your note...
This is nothing more than one of many, many thousands or resorts, complexes, vacationing facilities (all over the world) that are vacant, ready for sale, or lease, or renovation, or remodeling, or demolishing, or …or…or… Whatever !

For every one like this one – three others are being build right now – as we speak… More beautiful and more opulent than the old ones …

Your note sounds so falsely dramatic… (:-))))))

Naaah… It can’t MY David ???
MY David is always down right to the core…

Love & peace, dearest friend
George

Decline of the American Empire ?????????????????

Hello David,
what a pity this luxury resort to be closed with these special kiosks that looks to the infinity sea.Great the vivid colours and the light that you recorded here with a superb blue sky.The good POV creates an excellent perspective and a great depth of field.Informative your note too.

Regards,Danos

Ok, I buy it, David :) Loved your note describing this place and I'm sure I would enjoy it as much as you if I was there. A ghost resort to explore, photograph and have a nice bath, completely alone. Yes, it would be a strange and interesting experience. Nice couple of shots with very appealing colors and impressive quality. This one is more attractive, but I like the interplay bettween the statues and that cloudy sky in the WS.
Cheers,
ricardo

It must be an extraordinary experience to wander through such an abandoned luxury resort. Kind of fantastic remains of human craziness. The remains of the american empire after its decline :) Great mix of colors with the yellow of the constructions, the tropical sea and the beautiful sky.

Hi David
Amazing colours and light in this excellent composition. I like how you show us this architecture and how you framed it
TFS and greetings

Nice to see another view then the standard pictures. Excellent colours in the picture. I like the green against the blue and the green in contrast. Well done.
Best wishes,
Achim

hi david,
The clarity of this image is excellent. Well composed with good saturation of colour and sharpness.
it might sound wistfulness by it emptyness.

cheers

Hello David,
Interesting examples of classical architecture, seems like there has been a lack of maintennance for some time!
I like the composition and the fine details, the view to the sea is still wonderful...
Attractive tropical colours!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi David,
I guessed you and I, are pretty much on other things and a lot less on TE the last few months. From the look of things, most of those that have grown with us at the start of TE, are lightyears away in seeing works of others and commenting them.

For something so peaceful and resort like, up close it can be a bit disappointing and almost depressing. It is like a lonely summer by the beach. Reminded me of the saying, all the lights is on, but no one's home.

Regards
Bani

Hello David,

I see that you are in the Western Hemisphere, and indeed in the Northern and Western Hemisphere. The colors of Bahamas come through in this simple but lovely composition. Enjoy the 'Suburb of Paradise.' I have a feeling that you and Tan Yilmaz are the two most traveled Trekers.

Warm regards from an ice-blanketed Washington, DC.

Hello David

This scene reflects highly contrasting points. In the foreground, a wall damaged by the sun and by the time, but with some nuances unmatched in the handling of light and color, highlighting a spectacular background.

The atmosphere of loneliness and abandonment perhaps, determine the beauty in its composition. Almost ironic!!. Well done.

John

Hi David,
The contrast between the turquoise sea and the muddy green scum in the pool is way more dramatic than your note. It reminds a lot of several resorts I've seen in Mexico.

Hi David,
this place seems that it had to be very elegant and agreeable for a few vacations, and it is incredible that it is left.
On your photo, I like the setting and the good graphical balance created between the light and the shades on these damaged elements.
And also the sky, the clouds and the sea with a few very beautiful colors.
An excellent work.
Best regards,
Josep

Hello David
Very nice design,
the architectural details are captured to perfection,
it looks like the cover of a glossy travel magazine,

Hi David,
incredible shot, wonderful perspective.I like the color of the wates both in the sea and the pool. Nice view. I want to see this place

Hi David,
The colors and the pov of the photo are truly beautiful. The blue sky and emerals sea is superb. It has the sad iar of a desrted summer placed visited in the winter. The sharpness also very good.
Best regards. Salvator.
