163- Volcan Arenal, a photo from Alajuela, East

Photographer's Note

ARENAL situated about 7 km SE of La Fortuna is the youngest and most active volcano in Costa Rica, only 7000 years old ! Recently, it has been continuously active since 29th July 1968.
It's 1670 m high and counts 5 craters. On the picture, you can see 2, with the wisps of smoke coming out. Of course, we didn't go to the top to photograph the craters, only for a walk on the base, where we trudged on boulders of lava.

I took this photo from our dinner table on a terrace at the restaurant. I used the maximum zoom, which might account for the little "drops of rain" that you can see on the volcano, and also on the sky. It wasn't raining at all and I wasn't behind a window. So if anyone could explain what those stains are, I would be grateful.

Bonjour MarieLouise,
You were lucky to have such a bright day and the perfect cone shown clearly - I heared it is mostly covered with clouds.
The tree in full foliage appear nicely on FG, and the only one thing I can explain about those "drops" is probably Vulcano's dust particles.
Fantastic nature's shot.

Bonjour, chère Marie-Louise,
La présence de gouttes de pluie pourrait être due à une nuée ardente, dont l'expression est composée de « nuée », qui désigne un certain type de « nuage », et « ardente », qui fait référence à une très forte chaleur. Elle signifie donc « nuage brûlant », « nuage incandescent » !
Maintenant tout cela n'est que supposition !
La joliesse de l'ensemble est manifeste.
Merci également pour les fleurs, mes connaissances en matière florale sont très limitées.

Ton image bien réalisée me rappelle un super souvenir. Dans un chalet au pied du volcan, réveil à 4 H du matin par les singes hurleurs et à 5 H petit café sur la terrasse de notre chalet juste devant ce magnifique spectacle que tu nous proposes aujourd'hui. Un moment inoubliable.

Bravissima a comporre questa immagine! Mi piace molto l'albero dai rami sottili in primo piano attraverso il quale si vede il grande vulcano! La cima dell'albero sembra disegnare il profilo di una montagna! Molto interessante!

Je suis fou des volcans et comme en Brèsil on n'en a pas je dois aller dans d'autres pays pour les visiter!
Celui-là, j'aimerais beaucoup le visiter!
Ta photo est très belle!

J'ai vu ce volcan en 2001 mais malheureusement les nuages nous empêchait de bien le voir. Belle prise de vue et merveilleux avant-plan qui forme un beau contraste de couleurs avec le bleuté du volcan.

Es impresionante ver estos hermosos gigantes de la naturaleza, muchas veces temidos, odiados y a la vez amados y venerados.
Tu foto me gusta y aun siendo sencilla muestra a la perfección las dimensiones de los volcanes, gracias a las copas de los árboles cercanos, debe ser un bonito estar allí y disfrutar de esas vistas.

Une vue magnifique sur le volcan le plus emblématique de ce pays.
Les nuages au-dessus ont été très opportune, car elle semble être fumant. J'aime aussi les beaux arbres au premier plan.
