[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
The hill town of Monteverde in Costa Rica is home to one of the more spectacular cloud forests in the world, with a huge biodiversity. (Snakes, too.) We went on a night walk in Hidden Valley, where the guide pointed out all kinds of flora and fauna, including this flower, called Napoleon's Button.

(I did not use a flash for this picture; someone shined a flashlight on it and I was able to capture it that way.)

Technical: Noiseware to reduce noise and sharpen the image. (I didn't discover this until later, but the camera - my first use of the D70 - wasn't working quite right. Nikon fixed it, and even replaced my long lens, but this is one of the few Costa Rica shots that wasn't ruined. ) I selected some of the bright part of the leaf and reduced brightness and contrast, then blurred the edge of the bright area a bit.

Hi Daniel

Very beautiful!! Splendid light and colours!!

Best regards

Marina

The lighting makes me feel like I am standing there myself with a flashlight, looking at this flower. I like your idea of having someone use a flashlight, since it really adds such a sense of realism to the shot. I really like how the leaf in the upper left corner is dim enough that it gives the sense there are a whole bunch of leaves right behind the flower that are out of range of the flashlight....even though i can't see them, i can feel them there. I think that use of a flash would have ruined this shot.
