We've just got back from a 14 day whistle-stop tour of Costa Rica and have seen some truly amazing sights.
This shot was taken on the beach at "Playa Las Cocos" on the Pacific coast (...actually in the Gulf of Papagayo in the district of Guanacaste).
To me, it shows the delicate balance between old and new. My wife and I were there to Scuba dive . This guy was here to earn a living in the most traditional manner. The boats in the middle distance are a mixture of pleasure and fishing and as the catches get lighter, the more the locals are having to rely on boat trips, fishing trips and diving / snorkelling.
This isn't a doomsday message but Costa Rica is pushing tourism very hard at the moment. Just down the road from our hotel (a 30 minute drive from Playa Las Cocos) there's a new harbour under construction and the glitterati from round the world are buying up huge tracts of land and building mansions.
It would be a real shame if the country lost its character as part of the modernisation.
More photos of this wonderful country to come over the next few weeks. Hopw you like this one....

Welcome back and Pura Vida! I'm glad you enjoyed your trip.
Interesting and well composed shot with the inclusion of the shoreline and the fisherman perfectly placed in the frame for the most impact. The type of boats visible in the background back up the point you make in your note. I don't think you had the best light and the image looks a little soft on my screen, probably downsizing to blame. I look forward to seeing your travelogue.

I expected Costa Rica to be a sunny tropical spot, but here it look almost like England! ))) I like the compo, but I'm not so sure about the sharpness. Despite f10 and fast shutter speed, the boats look a little blurry. I sometimes have the same problem. Anyway, I hope you had a great holiday there.
