Woman in cojute Photo

Photographer’s Note

In El Salvador, a friend of mine and a workmate in the ONG, had been there 2 times before working with teenagers and kinds in Cojutepeque. Obviously, he wanted to visit the city again to meet some people...and all of us went to there.

If you are looking for a typical city of El Salvador, possibly you are looking for Cojutepeque ("Cojute"). People with the typical dresses, lovely kids, caotic traffic....anyway, an amazing city (Ohhhh... note for tourists. In the main square there's an impressive bakery, just in one corner, with a superb "donuts").

Unfortunatelly, there's a lot of people begging and women working...as this one.

I hope you like it!
PD: I want to dedicate this picture to the master of portraits, in my opinion, here in TE: Andre. Andre, one day my pictures will be better than yours (ok, ok, ok, in a far, far, far away galaxy in a long, long, long time.....but one day....:P)

Thanks for your nice tribute my friend, my mother will finally think I have made something good in my life... LOLL!

Yes, portrait photography can sometimes be a challenge, depending on your social skills, talent to recognize interesting faces in a crowd, light conditions, appropriate background and so on, but whatever the results, the fun is to get into contact with people that otherwise, you might never approach.

Through your ONG experience, you obviously got a facility to get in contact with people and this attitude can only lead to nice encounter.

From there, it's only a matter of passion and disposition to achieve the style of portrait you have in mind, according to the context and the emotion you want to present.

Here Oscar, you have done an interesting job by presenting a daily life street portrait, where the interaction seems to be at minimum; this approach sounds perfect when you want a spontaneous reaction. But maybe your subject wasn't encline to be photographed or she was just absorbed in her thoughts.

The tight cropping surely conveys a sense of intimacy and I think you have done the right thing by cutting the upper part of the basket on her head, opting for the motion and mood, instead of being too "descriptive".

The dominant of blue is also a good feature, as her face and skin are the only parts to stand out from the surrounding.
