Photographer’s Note
Haiti, with a population of about 8 million is the poorest country in the Americas. More than 67% of its population live under 4$ a day and a high perecntage lives under one dollar and face hunger. Most people are kind, simple and smily even though life is very tough.
The country has endured instabilities for the past 20 years and faces economic and political challenges.
This photo was taken on the day before leaving port-au-prince, when I insisted that the driver allow me to open the car window and step down from the car to chat and take few pictures for memory...

i'm happy to read you had a good impression of the haitian people as well. i found it the most difficult country i ever traveled in, but also the most rewarding.
i like the direct, strong and unsentimental way the man looks at you. very typical haitian. the background is beautiful, and i like the color of the scissors as a contrast to the more natural colors.
