Photographer’s Note
Our first stop after leaving Miami, Florida was the beach port of Labadee, located on the northern coast of Haiti.
It is a private resort leased by Royal Caribbean International. Although sometimes described as an island in its own right in advertisements, it is actually contiguous with the island of Hispaniola. However, the site is fenced off from the surrounding area. The cruise ships anchor offshore and passengers are tendered to the resort. (Wikipedia)
You can see the tourist having fun and relaxing in one of the few beaches that you find at Labadee.
In the WS a boat taking tourists at shore.
Hope you like it.

Hi Emilie,
it looks a little menacing, the ship, if it comes any further ... just joking :)
Beautiful, colorful holiday shot, makes one fancy vacation ... TFS.

Interesting shot, looks rather like a holiday snap until one reads the note, to discover there's much more than meets the eye in the scene that's completly at odds with Haitian expectations. Rather an horrific scenario on the whole. Excellent reportage.

Hej Emile,
Good photo of the beach, water and ship. I like all the many colours that the people add to the beach and water. The ship looks impressive. The light is pleasing and I find the composition good. Well done!

I wouldn't want to be one of the people crowded onto the beach, but the quality of your photo is impeccable with an excellent composition. The depth is wonderful with the beach, sea, the towering liner and the background mountains.

Hello Emile. A photo of full contrasts. On the one hand the idyl of the people on the bank and in the water, on the other hand the enormous ship in the background. It surprises me that the people do not have a view for the ship. Apparently one got accustomed together. The photo is in any case beautifully and worth seeing. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hola Emile,

Emile,
This is a very nice shot of the beach at Labadee. The ship looks great out in the harbor with the people adding interest and color in the foreground.
I took a shot of the Voyager of the Seas from across the island. This shot was taken in June 2003

Hola Emile,

Hola Emile,
It seems to me this scene repeats itself day after day, because if you check the only available other picture from this place you'll find it quite similar !
That being said a very well exposed one, and not exactly the image of Haiti we get from the news headlines, the ship looks quite huge compared to the people.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Ciao Emile!
Ciao, TFS!

Incredible to see how close this ship is to the beach. At first moment I thought that you might have played around with your zoom and a high focal lenght, but than I saw that you cpatured this scene with a simple 48mm. WOW! That ship is almost hitting the sand. A very good composition with the tourist in the foreground taking care of their skin to avoid sunburn. Very nice trip, Emile!

Hola Emile,
Your outstyanding framing has saved the shot from the banality of a cruise ship shot. The framing of the beach scene is outstanding; the line of beach chairs give order while the near and far bathers give great DOF. The presence of the looming cruise ship is a true statement about the effect of thse behemouths on the remote areas they visit. Outstanding!! A+++ SAA, Pat

Hola Emile,

I cannot believe that this was taken in Haiti !!! Having been there recently, and not having seen a single tourist in the capital or in the countryside, not even in the famous tourist resorts and beaches during all my stay there...
But the cruise boat explains everything, as well as your note.
The shot is great, with the boat and the inviting bay, splendid colours too,
Bravo,

Hi emile,
Great shot. I've always wanted to visit Haiti and to climb to the Citadelle but never made it. I tried once from the Dominican Republic but there were too many formalities that prevented me from doing so.
Great background and an amazing foreground.
