Photographer’s Note
There is garbage in the streets of Port-au-Prince everywhere. And collecting garbage is just one of the minor challenges of the Haitian government. am not sure whether this man was looking for something valuable or making a lone effort to clean up his neighbourood. His pose, bend low, with the stick and the hat, somehow reminded me of images of Japanese rice pickers. But he is picking something less pleasant.
