Though my personal feeling is that a photo can be made perfect with out following the conventional rules... but in your case not only I feel I do believe that if you place the 2 people following the rule of third, definitely it would take it to a world of elegancy.
You could have placed it at one-third position from left hand below corner or right hand upper corner. 2 would give you 2 totally different feelings. In case of first you could exhibit those people giving them some extra edge than the place. And in case of 2nd option this would be like... these couple has been lost in the profound vastness and loneliness of the place.
