Photographer's Note

I happened to be at Devon House when a primary school soccer tournament was going on. Between games, these boys were more intent on racing their model cars. I had to take this very fast because had they realized they were being photographed, they would immediately have gone into Usain Bolt poses -- as some other groups did, in fact.

Devon House is an excellently preserved 1881 mansion. Tours remind locals and visitors that it was built by a Jamaican, George Stiebel, who became one of the first black millionaires in the Caribbean through his mining interests in South America. With extensive, beautiful grounds, craft shops, restaurants, pastry shop and famous ice cream, Devon House is a favorite destination for days out in Kingston.
