‘León - Subtiaba’s sawdust carpets - 3’
Third and final upload of pictures in the mini-series of the sawdust carpets in Subtiaba, León.
In Subtiaba, a suburb of León, every year on Easter Saturday colourful sawdust carpets are made in the street.
In response to my previous photos, some TE members asked what happens if there is a lot of wind.
Possible when choosing the long street with the sawdust carpets the usual wind direction was taken into account … I don’t know. But as far as I remember, the sawdust was not dry. Not dry like we normally imagine sawdust is. I suppose this was because the paint.
I didn’t go back the next day but if I remember well these carpets remain only the day of production.

Salut Paul,

Heel mooi foto werk Paul, bedankt.
Groeten uit een fris Oost-Vlaanderen,
John.

Hello Paul,
I am not surprised that you took a lot of photos here, enough for three uploads and several additional pictures. These carpets are much more original than the average wall paintings and no less colourful. The religious motifs also make them very different from the usual graffiti. Difficult light, and sometimes people standing in the wrong places, but the slightly chaotic surroundings convey a strong sense of presence. These are the total opposite of postcards. And I think you understand that I mean that as a compliment.
Have a nice weekend,
Gert
PS Thanks a lot for your comments this morning.

Dag Paul,
It was well worth the time and effort to produce a series of images of these unique coloured sawdust artworks. Good sharpness, saturation & framing. Tfs!

Hi Paul, Great to see these finished sawdust carpets with bright colours and clear Christian themes. Your angle is perfect for showing strong perspective along this street and people on each side.

Vivid colors and a joli scene, Paul.
Though light was not best favorable - conveyed well the occassion around the beautifully painted sawdust.
Wish you a nice weekend,

Hallo Paul,

Groet Rob

Hi Paul.
This is an impressive artwork of human invention and dedication to the spiritual connection with God. Never heard of that kind of activity over there, will have to ask my Nicaraguan friends about it. A great capture and well presented, thanks for sharing.

Ciao Paul
Buona domenica

Hello Paul
These carpets are unique to the art they serve. Too bad they cannot be duplicated into real carpets. Nice capture of this event. First I have ever heard of this. Thanks for sharing with us.

Hello Paul,
Another excellent photograph of the sawdust pictures.
The colours and the details of the pictures are first rate.
We can easily see the rough textures of the sawdust, having a depth not common with paint.
Your viewpoint works well to create a sense of perspective.
The visitors are obviously very interested in the art work.
Have a good Sunday,
Bev :-)

Hi Paul,
wow this is quite an extraordinary work of art. I use some wood shavings on daily basis as a bedding for my Guinea pig at home. I wonder if I should start to arrange it in some sort of pattern. She later contributes another color but her work is more spontaneous as if modern art.
Here a more classical art, and most importantly fantastic colors. I like how you have included people here who bring life and serve as scale markers but they don't disturb too much.
Excellent reportage,
M

Hello Paul
Looking at the thumbnail my first thought was an artwork made of flowers. It`s a surprise that it really is sawdust. Despite the difficult light, you have managed to get a very nice picture of this special event. Interesting text to accompany. Fine work:) TFS.

Hello Paul,
This is another beautiful photo of the carpets. The colors are wonderful. I think it was a good idea to crop out the sky, which seemed very bright and challenging. The artists who create these carpets are extremely talented, and it's nice to know that many people enjoy and appreciate their hard work.

Hello Paul.
After a few days of vacation, and again active in TE, impressive the difficulty of reproducing all these faces on this carpet, built with serrated colors, a beautiful tradition and a beautiful perspective.
Very effective coloring, which highlights the details of the image.
Good management, both brightness and sharpness.
Very well done. I like it.
Enjoy the weekend.
My best wishes for you.
Luis.

Oi, Paul!
A foto ficou linda, o tapete que você nos mostra possui um desenho bonito e deu textura à foto. Cores bonitas e intensas, como de costume. Ótima luz e profundidade de campo.
Excelente!

Hi Paul
this may be the best of the sawdust shots. Its great that we the viewer can see the shapes and actually the sawdust so clearly. Nice to have the people in the frame too, showing the popularity of the event. Harsh lighting up top, but the key areas are from the mid point down anyways. awesome. cheers

Hello Paul, I missed some of your pictures during my short break on TE. Usually, I post photos even when traveling. This time I was very busy from early morning till the night.
What a pity that these artworks have such a short life. Fantastic picture.

Hello Paul What a fantastic eye catcher whose design is related to beliefs. I wonder how they can evenly paint heaps of loose sawdust according to each color needed; I can't see any color accidental overlap due to 'on situ' spraying. Anyway you captured a much-interesting and attractive piece of art that shows a lot about the local habits. Cheers

we had these same sawdust carpets here in my hometown, but they were made in Corpus-Christi day.in those days there was many timber here, but nowadays the timber was gone and traditions was lost. during some years church creates the carpets, but they are painted in the asphalt. anyway there is the great tradition of artistic carpets in many other brazilian towns.
your image is very well done and shows the public enjoying the beauty of the carpets. excellent.
take care
jorge
