Isla Ometepe - Punta Jesús María

A series about Isla Ometepe isn’t complete without pictures of the narrow spit of land with the very religious name Punta Jesús María.
Pronounced with a Spanish accent the name sounds very exotic, I think.
You will have already noticed on previous photos that Nicaragua is a very Catholic country.

The narrow spit of land is formed by water currents and sediments.
Depending on the amount of precipitation, this headland can be long or short.

Punta Jesús María is located at 6 km. from Moyogalpa, the largest village on the island with various accommodation options. So at sunset this is a popular destination.

What’s so special about this headland except the fact that you have water on both sides?
Punta Jesús María offers a beautiful view of the two volcanoes on the island.
On the left you see the Concepción, the one that became in the meantime very familiar for you and on the right side there’s the Maderas.
People with very good eyes can also see the Mombacho volcano on the mainland (not on this picture).

The calm and shallow water attracts many people for a swim.
Simple drinks and food stalls can be found a little further.
It’s an excellent place to end a beautiful day.
