The ancient town of Butrint is one of Albania’s major archaeological centers and is protected under UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
It is located on the shores of Butrint Lake, south of Saranda and close to the Greek border. Cross the sea (Straits of Corfu), less then 10km is Greek´s Corfu Island.
Butrint Lake area is composed by a tectonic lagoon, surrounded by forested hills and mountains and complemented by saltwater and freshwater marshlands. Triangular Venetian fort is the first part of Butrint that You can see when You arrive close to Butrint.Venetian fort and old settlement of Butrint lock important waterway named Vivary channel, connecting Ionian Sea with The Lake Butrint . Venetians built this triangular fortress at 15th century to gard the area against attacks by the Ottomans
