Photographer’s Note
From the 14th century citadel, "kala", of Berat in central Albania.
Berat is classified by the UNESCO as a world heritage, mainly for the hundreds of residential houses from Ottoman times climbing the sides of a hill. On top of that hill is the citadel where people still live inside the ancient walls. Some of the residents try to make a living from selling souvenires to the slowly increasing number of tourists, but most people go on with their lives they way have done for generations.
In a workshop you can see the bricklayer from up front, unfortunately with the sun in the wrong direction.

Good morning Gert!
Sun here doesn't matter! This scenery in spite is amazing, interesting - and worth-showing. This architecture really seems to be built for eternity - but your photo shows the contrary. I like that one also can see the landscape around. An special and beautiful place ...
Greetings from grey and rainy Germany!

Hi Gert,
I think this is a very nice frame and I must say you are a peoples person. I was a bit intrigued by this house when I last went on the castle as it is different in architecture from the majority of the other houses.
Thanks for sharing

Hi Gert. I love these intimate shots from Albania- a place I almost visited last year with my aged father who speaks the language. Maybe one day I shall see the land of my fathers. Beautiful details- nothing like stone to bring character to a place- something about putting one stone on top of another, a metaphor for all the generations that went before, eking a living in a harsh land. Thanks for these shots as they make me feel as if I am there walking the narrow streets, meeting the people. Gert,
Great stuff, it is fine photography for sure and it is so refreshing to see a man doing his work as it has been done core centuries without the government shutting him down expensive safety innovations that rob him of efficiency and mobility. superb post.

Hej Gert
Those roofs
they really call for balkan as one of the most specific symbols for the region.
Beautiful wall details
