Photographer's Note

This is the church St. Michael in the Austrian village Gaschurn in upper Montafon valley in the state Vorarlberg. Gaschurn is situated in an altitude of 980 metres. With its 1500 inhabitants it has a municipal area of about 180 square kilometres whereas Vienna with its 1700000 inhabitants has an area of about 400 square kilometres.

Already in 1485 a St. Michael chapel was built here and in 1587 it became a parish church. In 1634 a new, a bigger church was built which was pulled down in 1867. From 1867 to 1868 the today's church was erected and it was consecrated in 1869. It was built in neo-Romanesque style with a transept and a choir and its outside - as you can see - is quite unadorned

The very particularity of this church however are the paintings in its interior. A real feast for the eyes. I'll show them tomorrow ...

In workshop you can see a wider view.
