Switches on the lower terminus of Pöstlingbergbahn in Linz, Austria.

These switches are more complicated than usual ones. The whole swich assembly swivels so that rails form continuos route and both rail edges are open all the way. This is different from normal ones where point blades guide the train to desired direction.

The reason for this is that Pöstlingbergbahn is one of the steepest adhesion driven tramways in the world. And for safety reasons there's special braking system on the tram cars that gets a grip on the rails. (Or at least that's how I understood it from the German Wikipedia page.)

Rails! My favourite theme. Fine composition, sharp photo, interesting note.

Nice composition with all these curves/intersactions of rails , details can be well seen and light management is fine too , well done .

Hallo Kari!
An inventive picture which reminds of men's life. Where to go ...??? In combination with the note (thanks for the German note ;-) a very interesting contribution!

Hi Kari,

I already travelled with this railway, but I didn´t check out this detail.. thanks ! For me the pic has also another meaning: "end of the journey". I like the closed doors, well cropped.
Cheers Christian

Hi Kari,
Terrific lines and graphism created by the rails. Well framed, the image is absorbing. Regards, Danilo

Very interesting composition Kari. Strong lines heading to......?
No train needed here, the image is strong enough with just those tracks...very good work here.
Regards, Henk

Hi Kari !
It is always interesting to take a picture of railways. The curves are beautiful and the details are good as well. Maybe I would have cut the up part (buildings), because it seems to attract my eyes.

Regards.

Terve Kari,
The subject is a bit of a specialized matter, but the visual impression provided by this opening of the rails is effective.
Have a nice day, JY

Hi Kari
Out of a technical issue, you present a nice and interesting picture.

Päivää Kari,
Very interesting shot with good composition. I saw such a point for the first time, understood the reason after reading your note.
There is the maximum gradient 116 ‰. Although the structure is complex, it seems comfortable to ride on.
Have a nice day, Hisashi
