[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
(In English below - not perfect photos, - not very sharp but I just wanted to share...)

porteur d'orage
il faut dire
que le climat s'y prête
à Bruxelles
Bruxelles ou la nostalgie de la douleur

********************************
Leaning my little ixus on an unstable table, these are 2 portraits of Djamal Benmerad that I took today : he is a journalist, he worked in his native Algeria as a reporter and as a redactor in chief with 2 major newspapers and was implicated in the opposition against the Islamists as well as against the militaries in power. (…) at some point, he took up arms to join the ‘Patriotes Armés’ in Kabylia, where he comes from.

He is now a political refugee in Belgium after the kidnapping of one of his sons (then aged 8 : seeing again his father, he told him that he had never blinked !) and after having narrowly escaped death.

He published several poems when he was living underground and continues to write short "tracts" which are regularly published.
(Original colours and my own attempt to translate one of his poems in the WS).

You know his life and his work very well
He must be an important public figure and I admire his friendly expression in this good collage

bonjour catherine
facile a dire!!!

bon w.e

Hi Catherine... Well, I think the point of view using the beers gives a special touch to this photo of a brave man. Sad story you tell us here, but at the same time quite encouraging. Take care.
Miguel.

I was looking for three people but he seems to be all...rolled into one!!! I like your current series. Its as eclectic as your other works with people.

Hi Cath. A beautiful collage. The note reflects your analytical study of this personality. I appreciate your sketching of Djamal both in picture as well as in your expression. Regards.

Hello Kath,

I'd never heard of the man. This is a warm and humane double portrait. The stella and westmalle ashtray makes it also a very Belgian one! Interesting man, I'll be keeping an eye open for more on him.

Merci!

Benny

My idea would be to insert the third photo of him (WS !) where the third glass of beer is standing (On the far right)...
It would cover just about beautifully this burning corner of your collage.
But, this is only a suggestion…
Because, quite honestly… I like it a lot the way it is…
It’s an honest and very professional way of taking people’s photos…
To know who they are…
Not always possible, but – more glory to you if you do…

It seems to me like you always do, Cathy…
And please, stay that way..
