Taken during a visit at Bruges

History of a part of the Augustijnendridge with three arches.
The Augustijnenrei is part of the first Bruges city wall and was dug in 1127-1128 together with the Smedenrei, the Speelmansrei and the Gouden-Handrei. Possibly the water and perhaps partly the bed of the, albeit unsightly, creek the Lane could be used. The Vlamingpoort was located near the Vlamingbrug. In 1270, the Augustijnenrei, together with the other inlets, was deepened to make shipping possible
