Brugge

History:

Nineteenth and twentieth centuries

In the nineteenth century and until after the Second World War, a weekly market for poultry was held on Kraanplein. Popularly the square was therefore called the Kiekenmarkt.
In a mansion on the square, Jan Brans, originally from Amsterdam, taught a primary school in the early nineteenth century, where among others Guido Gezelle took classes.
For several decades, the notable Van de Walle family lived in Sint-Jansstraat 2 (actually Kraanplein 2). This mansion was used as a defense house during the second half of the twentieth century.
In the 1960s to 1995, Kraanplein was known for the successful theater and exhibition space Korrekelder located there.
In the years 2015-2017 an important restoration was carried out to the house Kraanplaats 4, called De Cluuse, which has a history that climbs up to 1270.

I hope you like it.
