Antwerp, Belgium

Street Photography..definitely not my forte...but I gave it a hand for the first time, 12 years back.
I chose Black & White film to try and capture through my lens, the various actions & emotions of common people on the streets, to the best of my limited abilities.

This photo was taken near a café in Central part of Antwerp…I was standing and admiring the bikes...but then I was not the only one....

Scanned from the old Black & White (1994) print.

I still remember my first post in this amazing website...1st February, 2006....the Bayon face looking at the sky, still one of my favourties, but ignorant as I was about PP at that time, the photo suffered from pixellation due to resizing.

1 year has passed since then & TE has almost become an addiction. What gives me most pleasure is to be able to share my photographs with the vast spectrum of viewers & also be able to see and learn from others. The amount of things I have learnt (and still am) from members of TE community is immense and the people I have learnt from are too many to mention. But you all know who you are. I don’t want to name anyone because I’m afraid that I will miss someone out.

So what have I got from this site?

A whole lot of friends in this virtual space, with whom I hope to meet up with some day,…. acquaintance and friendship in real life with some exceptional photographers…. and lots of good honest critiques for my photos.

And from my part, what have I to offer?

Admiration....loads of it, for you and your photographs. It is truly a humbling & learning experience for me. Hopefully over the last one year, and within my limited capabilities, I have become a slightly better photographer.

Hence this post & the caption. A big thanks to all of you.

Hi Angshuman
Congratulations for the milestone achieved. Reciprocally, we thank you for sharing us your wonderful photos. May many more years to come contributing here in TE. Well done.
Cheers,
Renier

Hi Angshuman,

Congratulations for being on TE for one year. I've only been on for 2 months but feel very much like you do, this site is truly a humbling and learning experience. TFS your wonderful photos with us and thanks for giving us your honest critiques for our images, I know I really appreciate it. As for this image, I think your composition is strong and I like your POV. You did a nice job in documenting the customers interest in the bikes at the shop. Well done and look forward to many more images from you.

Hi Angshuman,
congratulations of jubilee, 1 year on TE! Fine reportage from Your archive. Interesting note. Well done. I like it.
Gr., Aleksander

Dear Angshuman,
A perfectly chosen image (ofcourse one expects no less from you) for the occasion. Street photography (like portrait) may not be your forte but you have done pretty well on both counts whenever you have ventured out. The admiration ofcourse is both ways. From well documented notes, alternative WS versions, travelogues, Workshops, in-depth critiquing - you have done it all. A Trekearther in the truest sense. My special admiration for your series on Lepakshi (one of the best architectural series on this site) and your pictures from Angkor inspired me to visit the historic ruins. It has been a pleasure knowing you and having you as a friend. Thanks to TE for that:)
Best Wishes
Sabyasachi

I simply wish you a happy new year !
I'm surprised by your choice for that event, but it's really a surprise : not used to find this kind of mood, especially in B&W in your gallery.
I don't know why I find it... indian !! Reminds me the movie "Doom". An unexpected compo.
Stéphane

Hi Angshuman,
Congrats on the first year in Trekearth.Very nice B&W composition.Excellent work my friend.TFS.

A superb tonal range with excellent contrast & sharpness. I like the repetition of the motor cycles. Congratulations on your 1st year with TE!

good morning angshu,
congratulations on your first TE year ... must have been a rewarding experience!
nice street instance to celebrate this event - well done and tfs,
dora

Hi Angshuman,
Congratulations for your 1 year on TE! I just celebrated my 1 month (hehe) and am already addicted to this site and the amount of information it contains...
There are very few members like you... talented photographers, active critiquer, adviser, motivator... this is the treasure of this site...
Thanks a lot for sharing your passion, for your generosity.
Vincent
PS: by the way, I like this picture too!

Bonjour, mon ami Angshu,
Philippe

Olá Angshu, what have you done bettween 16 of November and the 1ft od February? Trying to understand how this worked ;-) Just kidding...
Congratulations on your first year. Almost 200posts and that's quite good, but the best is the quality of your work and not the quantity of it, especially the excellent informative notes and critics, where you try your best in the analise of the images presented. Your spirit of sharing is one of the best here and I'm glad to know you here.
About the image, it's quite a surprise and you should know that I like that. Give me your strangest experiences, please. I wouldn't guess that you are a fun of motorbikes ;-) I like the b&w presentation and some little details, such as the posters (Rock) in the background and the pigeon (strange...) in foreground. Even the overexposed windows please me here, as it works with the age of the photo ;-) Well done, my friend!
All the best for the years coming,
Ricardo

Hi Angshu,

Congratulation for your one year TE, Indeed on this site them can very a lot learn under each other, also the contacts between the different country and religions, all with one objective, make a very well picture!
You show a picture out of my country, city Antwerp, around the central railroad station, find indeed now always splendid bikes!
Very well done! TFS.

Regards,
John

Hello Angshuman
HEhe, I wonder what were you doing these over 2 months, as Ricardo wrote :).
Thanks to you I got accustomed with India and other Asian countries. It is good to see things I usually don`t admire :).

Nice capture with good depth of field. Interesting light in this b&w performance.
Regards

Hi Angshuman,

A nice photo of the man adjusting his helmet before going on his mortorbicycle, the black and white is showing a lot of details. The photo has a good composition and perspective. Thanks for sharing.

Pierre

Ah...Angshuman...we have to admire you.
Congratulations on your 100th post. Street photography is definately a pain in the arse...I admire this medium quite a bit and can't understand how people become so good. Anyhow, I really like to see the B&W film scan...the tonality is alays nice with film. You are a friend and I hope I make it to your home or you make it to mine...
Regards,
Chris.

***Not sure where I got 100th post from...I guess I'm a little bit of a space cadet. Anyhow, congratulations on your 1st YEAR! Got it right this time.

Hey Angshu,
Congratulations on completing one year in TE.
And a nice photograph to celebrate it with. Very earthy, very classy.
TFS,

Hi Anghuman,
Congratulation or 1 year in TE. You have a beautiful galery.

This is once more an excellent shot! Sharp, correct exposure, beautiful composition.
Achim

Congrats on your one year TE anniversary Angshu. This is a marvellous black and white shot. The bikes form a nice angle and the observer is well placed in the frame. Well done.
Best wishes
Mark

Hi Angshu - congratulations! yeah, I remember that period last February... it's been a great pleasure to follow your work and your wonderful photos since then, actually since your second post (although I still have to catch up with those you posted during my absence here in the summer...) Thanks for your posts, the notes, the insight into your own photos and the valuable comments and feedback given to others (including me), and for the friendship!!! Regards, Daniel

Then happy anniversay if it was one year ago.

This B& W picture gives a good result, even if the sharpness is not up to nowadays digital standards. I believe bykes, cars and women are probably the three things that usually make men stop in the street just for looking. But personnaly I am immuned from the first two addictions...

All the best,

Emmanuel

Hi Anshu,
You have had a good year with lots of interesting travels; very likely enhanced by this lovely addiction we share. The growth is clearly evident in your photos, processing and notes. Of course that is why we come here to this admirable website. Wishing you happy travels and skyies with lovely photogenic clouds, Pat

Hello Angshu,
Congratulations for the year spent on TE and wish you many more :) In a month and half I will also celebrate one year on TE and hopefully I'll become a bit better too...

Hi Angshuman,

Congratulations .. thank you for sharing yourself, your wonderful images, and your wisdom.

I love this man's shoes .. everything else seems to fit his motorcycle so well .. and then I get to his shoes?????

take care and again congratulations.

John

Hi Angshu - happy anniversary (I missed mine last week) interesting and unusual shot, I wish the right side of the person wasn't cut off, though I know it's an old shot.

Hello Angshuman,
Congratulations for this first year among us, I'm sorry I'm so late but not always I have the opportunity to come...
About this photo and after reading your note, I must disagree with you, who told you that street photo is not your best? By this one I would never say it for sure. Love the POV with all the motos lined in diagonal and this man preparing to ride one of them. The B&W choice was really good. The prints on the walls with "Rock" inscriptions fits like a glove on this photo.
Cheers.
Paulo

Hello Angshuman,
First of all congratulations for your first aniversary here...and I hope to see you for a lotos of more year with your beautiful photos.
About tihs one it's a nice daily life scene.
The contrast and light are very good.
And I like this old colour.

Hello Angshuman,

Superb shot and accompanying note. The scan from an old B&W photograph, not even a film negative, has put this image two steps back, and yet it is remarkably sharp image. Moreover, you had the good eye for composition back then as well.

Regards,
Bulent

Hi Angshuman and congrats on your anniversary. Great photo, well captured. Well composed and presented. Thanks for sharing.

Well, looking at the bikes here, we cannot consider them as oldies, not even in the date the shot was taken, but Angshu, my friend, your election of B&W for the picture makes of it a past times image, with all the taste of times which have gone. (could have been custom bikes, and the effect would have been brrrutal!)
