Photographer’s Note
Near Pazin there's a small town on a hill, called Beram. But a little further to the North, in valley, there's on a lonely place a small cemetery church of St. Mary. It looks nothing special from outside, but the interior is painted by the most significant mural cycle of frescoes, painted by Vincent of Kastav in 1474. On this picture is a detail of Dance of death. Like in Hrastovlje church, in Slovenian Istria, the symbolism tells us, that in death we are all alike - rich and poor, men and women, adults and children.
