Photographer’s Note
he Charles Bridge is a famous historical bridge that crosses the Vltava river in Prague. Its construction began in 1357 (King Charles IV) and finished in the beginning of the 15th century. Being the only means of crossing the river Vltava (Moldau), the Charles Bridge was the most important connection between the Old Town, Prague Castle and adjacent areas until 1841.
The bridge is over 500 meters long and almost 10 meters wide. It has 16 arches and 3 bridge towers. The tower on the Old Town part is often considered to be one of the most astonishing civil gothic-style buildings in the world. The bridge displays 30 statues and statuaries, most of them baroque-style, since around 1700.
During the day the Charles bridge is a very busy place, with artists, traders and a crowd of tourists crossing the bridge. But during the night it is a strange old place, quiet and full of history.
