Photographer’s Note

Looks like a peculiar place for an embrace, but this is Denmark!

More exactly it is Køge.

Køge (older spelling Kjøge) is a seaport and the main town in Køge Municipality, Region Sjælland, Denmark with an agglomeration population of 34,792 (January 1, 2008), including the suburbs of Køge Nord (Ølby Lyng and Ølsemagle Lyng) to the north and Herfølge to the south. Køge is located about 39 km/24 miles southwest of Copenhagen at the end of a line of the Copenhagen S-train system and has a well-preserved old town centre.

Køge was official founded in 1288 when the town became a market town, as a contrast to the ecclesiastical center at that time - Roskilde, and was an important merchant town during the late Middle Ages. During the local witchhunt, called Køge Huskors (1608-1615), at least 15 persons were convicted of witchcraft and burned at the stake. Køge suffered during the wars between Denmark and Sweden and remained a small town until the late 19th. century when industrial development and population growth began. And today Køge is the main part of the 16th. largest urban area in Denmark.

Køge Torv (The market square or town square) is the largest town square in Denmark outside Copenhagen.

Quite Danish and very colourful indeed. Even a bit romantic in a way. At least the the couple with an urgent need don't seem to bother about the entrance to the public toilet. A good snapshot with fine graphic qualities.

I like it!
Yes, it's an unusual place for romance, but I love the angle of view, and the colours. Lovely shadows, and great crop. This one really shows a lot of public facilities in one small area! You can sit down, deposit litter, send a letter, visit the toilet, and make love!

Hi Gunnar,
A simple and almost everyday scene; but very well seen and captured. The yellow wall and red mailboxes creates a wonderfull graphical effect. Most porbably not the best place to embrace his or her lover but ?... Love dose not have any limits !

The red mailboxes really pop on the yellow wall, in spite the couple doing their best to catch attention hehehe...

Hello, Gunnar.

The thumbnail of this photograph has impact because of its striking colours and the full-size picture is certainly no disappointment.

Perhaps a better "angle" on the embracing couple might have been advantageous, but the composition, the brilliant colours and the exquisite detail and sharpness are just superb.

Techically wonderful and an excellent "candid" shot into the bargain!

Funny shot, indeed, strange place for kissing! The colour off the wall and its texture is typical for Denmark, I think. Maybe you wanted to go to the loo but you did not want to disturbed them :)) Good observation and splendid colours.

Excellent daily life scene. Very good timing with the young couple and wonderful strong colours. You very lucky that mail boxes in Denmark are red. Swedish mail boxes would not have been as attractive and eye catching as the Danish. TFS and Glad midsommar!
