[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
This picture lacks technical merit and I know it but I hope that the cultural significance makes up for it.

If a Danish man turns 30 without being married he is called a 'pebersven' or a Pepper Sven, similar to the English term 'old maid.' To note this important mile stone, the young man's friends make these odd creations out of oil barrels and leave them near the door step of the Pepper Sven on his birthday. I've seen one or two of these before, but I think this one is particularly impressive and anatomically correct. This creation is over 2 meters high. Imagine finding him on your door step. I found him sitting out behind a shed near the lime factory in Faxe Ladeplads. Apparently his beneficiary had disposed of him there or he had yet to be given. Happy Birthday to who ever this belongs to and I hope you find a wife.

If anyone can improve this shop in a workshop, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi Kate
If I were to try and improve this shot I would try some of the following (I assume that arebel xt is a d-slr)
Try using a wider aperture if possible say f2.8 this will allow you to use differential focus which basically will put the bacground out of focus
stand further back if possible and use a longer focal length (telephoto) and faster aperture.
Finally as you have guessed use software on the background and blur it. I am a novice at digital but I am sure some TE members will be able to tell you how
Best of luck
Kenny

Kate, what an amazing custom. I don't think you can really improve it - a blurred background still leaves this "ugly micky mouse", different angles might help??. Interesting and worth reading about - I'd move on to other photos.
