Photographer’s Note

This is my second picture of the ruine of Kalø Castle. For the other picture, were I was standing closer to the ruine, look here.

Kalø Castle is supposed to have been built in 1313 on an island in the sea. In the same year they also built a dam to this island; both probably are founded by king Erik Menved.

The dam is 500 meter, and was at that time one of the biggest roadconstructions of Denmark. I was standing on the middle of the dam when I took this picture.

The other picture is made on the last part of the dam. Do you see those people who are walking in the background?

The castle was already demolished in 1320 by Christopher the II, but rebuilt by King Valdermar Atterdag after 1343 and than it served as a feudale castle under the Crown until 1660.

In 1672 the buildings were demolished by king Frederik the III, but large parts of them remain as ruin. Finally in 1903, the ruin was restaurated.

About the picture. It's only cropped and sharpened. (And I made it of course smaller to post it here on TE).
I took a whole serie, but most of them waren't that very good. The two best ones of the series made by the same camera did I not made, but my friend "marrty". I hope he will post them soon.
