Kalø Sunset

Something different this time again, but still from Denmark. This photo was taken from inside the car when driving back from Århus to Ebeltoft. It was captured near the town Rønde and shows Kalø Vig (Bay of Kalø) with Kalø Slot (Kalø Castle) during sunset.

Kalø Slot is located on a little island, that is connected to the mainland by a dam. It was built in 1313 by King Erik VI as one of at least four castles on Jylland (Jutland). Later King Valdemar Atterdag extended the castle. One of its best known prisoners was the Swedish King Gustav Vasa, but he managed to break out. After 1660 the castle wasn't used anymore and 1672 it became the ruin it is today, when large parts of its materials were brought to Copenhagen and used for the construction of Charlottenborg. Now, it is a tourist attraction.
In the background you can see one of the northernmost suburbs of Århus. The chimney is part of Studstrupværket, a power plant, built in 1968.

I hope you like this sunset view with Kalø Slot!
