Lysabild is a very nice village (with app. 600 inhabitants) in the southern part of the island of Als in South Jutland. The name Lysabild is quite interesting, it stands for the bright open apple tree brush and it indicates pretty fine natural conditions for fruit-trees.
The church of St. Michael the archangel was built in the medieval period (app. 1100) and it is notable for its very remarkable interior. There are wall frescoes that date from the early Gothic period, and include depictions of the Agony in the Garden and the Crucifixion. The church has a crucifix that dates from the fifteenth century. Also the font is medieval and made of Swedish limestone.
The building is quite bulky and with seats for 500 people it is one of the five largest village churches in Denmark. It has been a pilgrim’s church for many years since it was told that during a church service the wine has been converted to flesh and blood.
The nave in the south was first built in 1782. The huge tower was built in 1400 and has served as a bearing sign for the ships sailing the Baltic Sea.
It was here at Lysabild church on 23rd June 2008 before on the traditional midsummer evening (very important event not only in Denmark)the stake was lit, the very well known lecturer Jørn Buch stated in his speech that the majority of people in Denmark unfortunately still believe that all evil comes from Germany.

Lovely church with a lovely garden, really northern medieval style, but being whitewashed seems quite new!
It's a bright composition where the white of the church contrasts pleasurably with the intense green of the garden.

bONJOUR hARRIET,
un véritable plaisir pour les yeux que se laisser guider le long de ce chemin, admirer la verdure, avant de jeter les jeter sur cette église majestueuse.
L'exposition est parfaite, la facade blanche ensoleillée est parfaite exposée, ce qui n'est pas facile toujours.

I suppose that the green foreground is the cemetery. Good framing of this beautiful church which profits from a good light giving of good reflections to the bell-tower. Beautiful and interesting photograph, thank you for the instructive note Harriet.

Hi Harriet,

I like your collection of pictures of the German-Danish border region. A region I often passed on my way to other places in Denmark or further Scandinavia, but hardly ever visit it. Once I visited a Danish school in Flensburg, a prove of the Danish presents in Schleswig-Holstein.

You have nice quality here, with pure colors, sharp detail and nice exposure.
The off centered framing of the church works well too. It is also possible to adjust the lens distortion in photoshop, but looks good as it is!

Here in this one I like the architecture of the church and its color (white is a color?) that contrasts amazingly nicely with the bluest sky above and the dark green vegetation!
The rocky path is also very interesting as it leads our eyes to the main object of the photograph!
I was always told that one should not take pictures of buildings looking straight at them, but sort of sideways... in this case, I think you could have follow this sort of advice, so the church would look less flat and one could see more details of it!
However, that point doesn't stain a bit the quality of this beautiful image! It's just some hint!

This beautiful old white church with its silver roof stands out brilliantly against the vivid blue sky and wispy clouds.
The lush green foreground contrast wonderfully with the church and sky.

This is a well composed shot of this fine church. The path leads the eye into the shot nicely giving the photo a nice sense of direction. The gardens in the foreground add a many nice points of interest. The lighting and colors are great with nice sharpness and detail.
