Photographer’s Note
Estonia's fourth largest island, Vormsi, is located between Hiiumaa and the mainland with a total area of 92 square kilometers. It is part of a rural municipality with the same name in Lääne County.
Vormsi's history as an inhabited island dates back as far as the 13th century. During most of its history,t he island has been inhabited by Estonian Swedes ("rannarootslased" in Estonian or "coastal Swedes" in English), whose population reached 3,000 before World War II. During the war, nearly all of Vormsi's population, along with other Swedes living in Estonia, were evacuated to Sweden. The island's current population is approximately 350 inhabitants.
The Island of Vormsi with its juniper fields, seaside meadows, erratic boulders and lighthouses is best toured on a bicycle or on foot. The gravezard of Vormsi church (1632) is famous for numerous ancient circular crosses.

Hi George,
This is a scenery close to what I have been looking for the whole summer... I always wanted to photograph tree trunks in strong backlight..!
This is very neatly done, I like the contrasty appreance of this strange scenery!
Wonderful strong colours in a pleasant composition!

Hi George,
You were becoming a little bit predictable IMO with your posts these days, it happens when you are posting one long series. Even the sky looked the same in most pictures. This is a nice change with the church graveyard. The light and colours are fantastic.

Great work again, George. This inspires me to do some research into the origins of these crosses. One of my 'mystic' handles has to do with the Bogomil's of Romania, now I am interested in these crosses and whether they are of a specific sect, since they are unusual in appearance.
Cheers

Excellent point of veiw and light filtering between the trees. The old crosses are very interesting in themselves but enhanced both by the play of the light either on their sides or though them and also by the shadows of the trees.
All the best,
Emmanuel

George, I like the colors here, but it has some overexposed area... But I can understand it, photos inside forest are very dificult to photometry.
I would sugest another POV, taken the photo from down (problably you must lie down on the grass) and very closed to this first croos on the forground, it will eminance more this celtic cross. Something like that: cross

I think this is really excellent George, and I hope you won't be offended when I say that I think it's the best image you've posted since your 'Green Harmony' photograph. The cityscapes were getting a bit 'samey'.
This is certainly one of the most unusual and indeed beautiful cemeteries that I've seen. It has a very calm atmosphere tucked away among the trees, and it must be a nice place for people to visit their departed loved ones.
A great use of light and shadow here George, and you've produced something special.
Cheers,
Ben

Greetings George.
I am very fond of your backlighting here. The greens are wonderful for the lights and shadows to play upon. Very well done the hints of blue in the sky. These gravestones are so distinctive, I have never seen anything like them.
Excellent shot,
Chris

Hi George,
The shadow effects, the lighting and the crosses appearing as scattered in the cemetery really give this a special ambience. The fine light filters through the trees, giving hope and comfort and peace in a troubled world. The cemetery reminds us of many things, including the loss of loved ones, but also the sacrifices of war. This looks like a good spot to stop and contemplate in silence. Well captured.

Beautiful photo, George, showing us the most unusual cemetery I have seen. Very good light here and the long parallel shadows of pines are wonderful. There circles really seem to be part of nature. Very good.

Hello George, It super it against day, the trees thus to solidify illuminates the landscape, and their shades in diagonals gives prospect, Très good blow of?il to have carried out this highly graphic image or the crosses are involved in their shade, moreover the incidental light gives a beautiful effect on this orée of wood, sincerely

Hi George. Wonderful scene. I love the dappled light coming through the trees. The circular crosses add a whole new dimension and contrast well with the straight trees. Well captured and thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.
