The Viru Gate

The Tallinn Town Wall is one of the most complete Medieval town walls still standing. The wall was built by the Danes in 1248, when Estonia became part of the Hanseatic League. Originally there were 66 towers, making Tallinn one of the most fortified cities in Europe. 26 of those towers are still standing. It is well justified in being aWorld Heritage Site.

The Viru Gate has been one of the main entrances into the city since it was built in the 1345 and still leads into the popular shopping area.

The Golden Arches behind the Gothic ones date from 1995, when McDonald's opened its franchise in Tallinn.

There are many fine places to dine in Tallinn. Some of them are much older and serve traditional Estonian food.

Hi Peter.
What a great composition! The woman in bright red just completes it perfectly, a great counterfoil to the grey walls. I like the light coming through the arch, casting that shadow and making a nice diagonal.
At least Macdonald's have had to install a small and discreet golden arch.
Great idea and good execution. Plus a good note!

Great photjournalism Peter. You captured the old and new very well. Nicely exposed to allow detail in both the light and shadow areas.

Hey Peter, I think in you I have discovered a great inspiration. I like your sue of lights and the way you have compsoed this fine image with such superb use of perspective and pov. the shot along with the colours is great
