Photographer's Note

A perfect sunset for a perfect weekend with my husband, true Finnish style in Savonlinna, Finland. We spent the weekend enjoying the untouched and spectacularly peaceful environment around us, on the edge of one of Finland's 187,888 lakes surrounded by forest. After a day of sauna and swimming in the ice cold lake in between, visiting nearby Savonranta and Kerimaki (photos soon), rowing in the lake and a dinner of beer and sausage, we were exhausted but exhilerated.

We set up a little fire on the edge of the water and sat and watched the sun attempt to set, for in Finland in the summer, some regions never see the sun set for weeks. It was almost midnight by the time the sun disappeared (momentarily) behind the forest on the other side of the lake, leaving behind spectacular colours and reflections on the serene lake. Words cannot describe the magic of the evening.
