Although model railroading is not exactly what TrekEarth is about, I hope there's enough learning about the world if I tell a little about Z scale model railways, another hobby of mine. At least these are not common objects that ToS refers.

Z scale (1:220) is the smallest commercially available model railway scale with its track gauge of only 6.5 mm. Z scale was introduced by Märklin in 1972. Märklin is still the biggest manufacturer of these models, but there's a few others like Micro-Trains which makes North American models.

This bridge view was on my home model railway. Unfortunately this exact scene no more exists after I moved two years ago. Scanned photo. Taken with 24 mm angle, blue colour correction filter and close-up lens, on smallest available aperture. Distance between fg waterfall and background mountain is about 50 cm. As the scale is (purposefully) hard to conceive from this picture I added a workshop photo to give a better idea.

More about Z scale on Wikipedia page.

Hi Kari. very artistic in its initial creation and in the photo realization. I see that you are a perfectionist. Regards and best wishes for 2008. Klaudio.

Eh! Eh! You really tricked me at thumbnail size. What a landscape I shouted! :))) So you do the Z scale. I do HO. But I am still waiting my kid to grow up a little to have an excuse when spending money on Märklin. ;) The photo is great and beautifully composed. Looks really real! :)

Salut , a good concept of artist , color and composition special Bravo Réal.

Hi Kari,
I looked at the picture and thought...fake..!!
Then readint rhe note, then a big smile...wonderful. As a little boy i had a large Marklin set, so seeing this it brings me back a long time a go. And of course there's only one here who has such a set, and that's you with all your trains.
The ws is also beautiful, a great hobby and a picture taken under a good angle with even a small sun inside...very nice work, i like it.
All the best for this year,
Henk

Hello Kari,

when I saw your WS about the scale, well... I have even more appreciation for the shot. And why not posting this on T.E. It does learn us something.

regards,

Luc.

Kari,
I looked into the thumbnail and was completely fascinated with the outstanding landscape and moment. I was already imaging how long it took standing there to get this moment. Well, the main post was an awakening to another reality. Personally I'm a HO guy and since my sons are at the age of Maerklin half of my income goes for photography and the other half goes for Maerklin.
You did a good job in putting up the scene that looks quite natural and did a good staged shot.
Cheers, Peter

Hi Kari
The idea is to show the details of everything and I think this a very ice macro capture. Great perspective with great clarity
Best Wishes

Hello Kari

We share interests and I love this shot. You had me thinking reality was a model and vice versa. Mainly I am drawn to the look of it, I have an interest in 3D images and this has a similar feel about it. Some people buy old plastic cheap cameras just to see the effect the lens will give them, I can understand why. I could rattle on but thanks for posting it particularly as it no longer exists
