In my previous post I showed you the exteriors of the houses in the Glims Farmstead Museum in Espoo. Here is one of the interiors, that of the so called greatroom of the dwelling house. Its exterior can be seen here and also here .

The dwelling or cottage was probably built in 1815. This is the biggest room in the farm, the greatroom. It was used as a baking room, an inn and probably also as a litigation room. The greatroom was the heart of the home, where food was prepared, meal was eaten and household tasks done. Also the kids played there and part of the people, mainly hired hands and girls were sleeping there.

The original fireplace and oven was in use up to the beginning of 20th century. However, this one in the photo, has been made later in 1950's according to the model of a similar one in Kauklahti village in Espoo. The dark appearance of the walls was caused by burning of shingle for lightning, which produced soot. The fireplace also gave light to the room. The oil lamps started to be common at the last half of the 19th ventury. The spinning-wheel was always near the oven, in so called women's side. This greatroom has been furnished according to the style of the late 19th century. The big table is on the opposite corner of the room, where is shot this photo. The set of dishes was stored in the cupboard and shelf on the left.

In Glims bread was baked according to the tradition of western Finland only a couple of times a year. The breads baked in the oven were dried in the beams which were hanging from the ceiling and then taken to the shed.

A truly beautiful scenery with a lot of details. This museum seems to be kept very affectionately. At the first glance this looks very cosy and homey - but I like my central heating and my dishwasher ... ;-)In combination with your note and the additional photos a contribution in the sense of TE!

There's are lot of common details in this interior, with the once I grow up with, One difference is that I was seldom that the walls where unpainted, even in the poorest and smallest "pörte " there was usually paint on the walls, otherwise the same cookery untensils the same type of vessel for making butter ect.
I like your comp even if the flash makes the photo a bit flat.

Hej Lasse,

There are many interesting details here in this photo! I have seen many old Finnish houses looking something like this here in "the Finnish Forest" in western Värmland, where we had a lot of migration from Savolax in the seventeenth century. Today many of them are museums like here, and they have Finnish names like "Purola", "Anttila", "Mattila" and "Karmenkynna". The name of the last one is in Swedish "Ormhöjden" and I believe that the original Finnish name must have been "Käärmen Kunnas" (or something like that). But enough of that...

I like this picture for the details, the fine composition and the good colours.

very beautiful this inside, with a fireplace that also remembers our old rural houses. Considering that you have used the flash, you have succeeded in getting warm tonalities of color without overexposing and with a perfect sharp. Another demonstration of your photographic abilities.

Good to see interior view too, there aren't too many on this forum.
Big oven, hand made carpets and other details give nostalgic feeling. And I really like those breads hanging. Effect of flash is fairly smooth, although top part could be darkened in PP.

Really a lovely indoor image of this beautiful traditional house. The fireplace which occupies most of the photogram and the tiny window to the right form a very armonious composition, with a good light, natural colours and a sense of space.
I see the fireplace was also an oven for baking and a cooking stove, but why they baked bread only twice a year?
