[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
There are days when you can see rusty old wrecks keep on rolling without staff.

Not quite. This is an abandoned class Tr1 (nicknamed Risto) heavy freight locomotive on Haapamäki yard. Panning effect is a result from the fact thas this was shot from a moving train. No PP tricks, just usual levels, contrast etc. stuff.
(Have a look at the Workshop for some added motion blur, just for fun.)

Title Ghost in the Machine, an album by Police, 1981.

Terve Kari,
Excellent shot that the engine without the main rods seems to be running. This looks like the C55 of Japan. Captured very beautifully her in the summer light
Have a nice day, Hisashi

hello Kari

Panning a train from a train? That is interesting as I see this rustic train is in good focus with the trees in motion blur. This reminds of my Canadian years whereas the cargo train always passing through in front of the classroom window. It never appeared attractive to me then, but with a camera, this locomotive can be a great subject of interest!

You are right to post this one as the main because it is sharp, the WS version is not as good, IMO. tfs

Hi Kari, an imaginative way to look at this scene. I like the contrast betwen this rusty iron horse and the green blurry surrounding. It's also a post with historical resonance - it has the name in the note of a former member that alas got evicted, and the name of your pic has the same name as the only picture that I ever removed from TE some 4 years ago - because of the very limitted interest in it.
I was never so thinskinned before or after. Maybe it was because I was in it ;-). As a curiosum I added it as a WS. Oh, and thanx for keeping the theme alive!
Have a fine weekend,
Bert

Good morning Kari,
a nice shot from an abandoned locomotive. The blur background bring out the details of the main theme as the panning effect created a great background.Well done.

Have a nice weekend,Danos

Hi Kari!

I always like abandoned things, things in "decline", I always like the rust, and this photo is full of it! Excellent framing and composition, clever and impressive Post Process that gave a beautiful effect! Congratulations!

That's amazing that one can still find such things in Finland, taken just this summer I see. Interesting OoF trees in the background, almost looks like the ghost train is moving, and you're panning it.
