Photographer's Note

A part of the fifteen thousand crosses with names of soldiers in front of the Douaumont Ossuary. Other more than 130,000 unidentified bodies are buried in the ossuary behind the camera.
In the battle of Verdun, which was one of the longest battles in the history and took ten months in 1916, over 300,000 soldiers died.
Nevertheless, many of the survivors went into another war less than a quarter of a century later.
