It was unfortunately a very cloudy,grey day which certainly makes the picture less attractive but I did not want to keep this from you. Especially because there is not much on TE about this place and that's a pity because it is certainly worth a visit if you're in the area.
With this shot I wanted to give you a view on the impressive fortifications of this old town. The upper town lies inside the walls and is only reachable by the one road you see in the picture. To access it, you have to drive through 2 gates and a tunnel. The upper town is unfortunately very poorly maintained. Lots of very very old houses are in ruins. Very unfortunate because it could be something very beautiful. I hope they are thinking about restoring it. In the picture you also see the Saint Martin church with double towers - unfortunately also in very bad condition. The most important item is off course the citadelle. You can make a tour along it. For those who love this kind of buildings it is certainly recommended; the fortifications are in a pretty good shape. At the foot of the hill lies the new town.
The citadelle dates in its current shape from the 16th century and was enlarged by plans of Vauban in the 17th century. It is placed on a steep hill where a castle was already built in the 13th century.

Au moment de la visite il faisait malheureusement très gris ce qui n'améliore évidemment pas les couleurs de la photo. Mais je ne voulais pas vous priver d'une photo de cet endroit. Surtout parce-qu'il n'y a pas bcp sur Montmédy sur TE et l'endroit vaut bien un détour quand vous êtes dans la région. Avec cette prise je voulais vous donner une vue sur les fortifications impressionantes de cette ancienne ville. La haute-ville se trouve dans les remparts et est seulement accessible via le petit chemin que vous voyez dans la photo. Pour entrer dans la haute-ville, il faut passer par 2 portes et un tunnel. La haute-ville se trouve malheureusement dans un mauvais état. Bcp de vieilles maisons sont en ruines. Et pourtant, on pouvait faire qq chose de beau ici. J'espère qu'on y pense de les restorer. Dans la photo vous voyez aussi les tours gémeaux de l'église Saint-Martin (qui elle aussi se trouve en mauvais état). Le plus important dans la ville est évidemment la citadelle. Vous pouvez y faire un bon promenade; pour ceux qui aiment des fortifications, cela vaut certainement la peine pcq les remparts se trouvent dans un assez bon état. Au pied de la colline se trouve la nouvelle ville.
Dans son état présent, la citadelle date du 16ème siècle et elle a été élargie par les plans de Vauban au 17ème siècle. Elle se trouve sur l'endroit ou se situait déjà un château au 13ème siècle.

Jammer genoeg was het een heel bewolkte en grijze dag toen ik dit stadje bezocht. Ik weet dat het de aantrekkelijkheid van de foto zeker niet ten goede komt, maar ik wou jullie dit toch niet onthouden omdat er vrijwel niets over te vinden is op TE en dat het toch een ommetje waard is wannieer je in de buurt bent.
Met dit beeld wou ik jullie toch een zicht geven op de indrukwekkende versterkingen die de oude stad omgeven. Deze oude stad bevindt zich binnen de wallen op de top van een stijle heuvel. Aan de voet ligt de nieuwe stad. De oude stad is enkel toegankelijk via de smalle weg die je op de foto ziet. Om binnen te raken, moet je door 2 poorten en een tunnel. Deze oude stad bevindt zich jammer genoeg in een bedenkelijke staat. Vele erg oude huizen staan er te verkommeren. Hopelijk wordt er aan gedacht om restauraties te doen hier want er is echt iets heel moois van te maken. In de foto zie je ook de dubbele torens van de Saint-Martinkerk die zich jammer genoeg ook in een slechte staat bevindt.
De belangrijkste bezienswaardigheid is de citadel. Je kunt er een lange wandeling rond maken en genieten van prachtige vergezichten. Voor de amateurs van versterkingen is het zeker een aanrader want de wallen bevinden zich in een behoorlijk goede staat. In haar huidige staat dateert de citadel van de 16e eeuw. In de 17e eeuw werd ze uitgebreid en gemoderniseerd naar de plannen van Vauban. Ze bevindt zich op de plaats waar zich voorheen in de 13e eeuw al een kasteel bevond. |

Hello Hendrik,
Although this was a cloudy day, I think you have done well. Sometimes we must make the best of what nature provides us, even if it is not the ideal conditions. The cloudy sky still provides a simple but effectuve contrast to the natural greenery, and the brown tones of the old castle. The 10-20mm lens has provided a nice wide view of the location, and the clarity is excellent. I am glad to see this result, because I have recently bought the same Sigma lens for my Canon. The slight distortion on the Saint Martin church towers is normal with this lens, and to me adds a different, interesting look to the photo. Looks like a great place to visit.

This is a very nice shot of this fortress. The fact that the weather was not ideal does not hurt the quality of the shot. Your composition is great using the walls and road to lead the eye through the shot. The lighting and colors are fine with excellent sharpness and detail.

Voilà tout l'intérêt de TE, apprendre, découvrir par l'image et mieux comprendre à l'aide de note très documentée.
Véritable labyrinthe pour accéder à cette citadelle. Le ciel et le soleil n'étaient pas de la partie, peu importe, ce qui compte c'est le sujet principal.

Een herfst uitstap vorig jaar naar Frankrijk zo te zien.
Het weer was niet in zijn goede doen, maar het onderwerp is daarom niet slechter, het punt waar u de foto nam was wel goed gekozen, u laat mooi ruimte op de rechterkant waardoor er een grote diepte ontstaat, dit is altijd mooi om te kijken.
Ik ben er nooit geweest ziet er wel interesant uit. Bedankt.
